Hi, my baby is 8 months breastfed and on 2-3 meals a day however keeps getting really constipated. Have tried most things but health advisor thinks she's not getting enough fluid.. can't find a good source of info as to how much in necessary. She has around 100mls juice/water at the moment and won't take much more than that, breastfred 5 times a day. any ideas?

I do the same thing as Amanda. I fill up a one of my daughters sippy cups with water in the morning and let her drink it throughout the day whenever she feels like it. Sometimes she will finish it and sometimes she wont. She nurses on demand throughout the day as well.

keep up the water 100mls a day while breastfeeding sounds fine atm, so do 5 feeds a day. what i would be asking is what foods are you offering at meal times? some things may be affecting her? and also make sure your still drinking enough fluids aswell!!!! we tend to forget sometimes :) goodluck

I agree with Mindy, dont worry about the water/juice (btw juice is not healthy or good for a child to have). I would up the amounts of breastfeeding a day 5 is a tad low for an 8 month old. Breastmilk is mostly water, its all your child needs under the age of 1. As for learning to drink from a cup. We have always filled a large sippy cup at the start of the day, and leave it out for our children to drink, if they finish it before they day is up. We would refill, if they dont we just empty it and start over the next day.

I have no idea how much 100 mls is ... from US, using only ounces.
But that said, I didnt really give my babies anything other than breastmilk until around a year. It would seem like since bm is easier to digest, more of it would be good to help the digestive process.
If you want her to use a cup, instead of juice/water, could you pump or express and give it to your dd?
Also, my doctor always told me 'P' fruits - prunes, plums, peaches, pears - aid digestion.
