How often are you breastfeeding?

I have a 3 1/2 month old daughter and she is only breastfed. I was just curious how many times other moms are feeding. She eats every three hours during the day and will go about 5-6 hours at night (sometimes 7-8). Also when did you guys introduce cereal? I know she is close to the 4month mark, but some stuff I'm reading says breastfeed only for 6 months. Just curious what others are doing.

My little guy nurses roughly every 2-3 hours during the day. He's been sleeping thru the night since 5 weeks old so we do anywhere from 6-10 hour stretches at night. The longer he sleeps at night, the more we nurse during the day! He's 5 months old!

Quoting Jenna:

my little girl is 8 months, and I'm planning on breastfeeding until she's a year, but it seems like I"m feeding more now that she's bigger. I give her rice cereal every day and cook some strained vegetables for her too. Even with this it seems like I'm feeding her every hour and half and throughout the day night, it's a full time job and it feels like it sometimes, but at the same time I feel very lucky that I'm able to. My question is when your baby nurses how long does each feeding session last?

Jenna, She will generally nurse10-15 minutes on each side.  How bout yours?

My daughter is 8.5 months now but at 3 months she was eating every 2 hours and about every 3-4 hours through the night! I started her on cereal once a day at 5 months, twice a day at 6 months and then I introduces veggies and fruit around 7 months. She now eats all baby food and has 3 meals a day with one snack and I only breastfeed about 5 times a day (before every meal, bedtime and once at night)

My daughter is also 3 1/2 months old ( Dec. 18, 2008.) and she is only breast fed.  She is beeing fed every 3-4 hours 24/7.   I plan to breastfeed until she is ready to wean,   She will have rice cereal @ 6 months.  Then I will leave her for longer periods of time because Daddy can feed her.  ( like getting my hair or nails done with out her)   Have a nice day!  She is a cutue!!

My baby girl is 2 1/2 months and feeds every 2 hours during the day and at night goes 6 hours ... I'm hoping to nurse until she is 6 months and introduce solids only then ... but will see how things go.

I feed my daughter on demand...sometimes its 2-3 hours, and sometimes 4-6 hours and she typically sleeps through the night.  I just introduced her to cereal a few weeks ago, as it seemed as though she wasn't getting enough and was wanting to eat like every hour...growth spurt or needing more?...IDK the cereal seems to have solved it.  I was however VERY hesitant to do so as my daughter had just turned 14 weeks and I had intented to wait until her 4 month appt for her Dr to recommend or tell me to wait.  I ONLY spoon feed Avarielle cereal and she seems to really enjoy that time. ( Its her dinner)  Some people say to thin it out, but Avarielle likes it a little thicker.....and she has never choked or made choking noises.....like she just naturally knows what to do...its so cool!

You sound like you are doing a great job! Breastmilk is all she needs for the first six months. You can start the other stuff then if you want but enjoy the fact that you alone are able to provide for all her needs right now.

My little girl is 4 and 1/2 months and she nurses every 3 hours during the day and night, Some nights she'll go 4 hour stretches, but not too often. I just introduced rice cereal yesterday and she took to it really well. I've been waiting to give it to her and was going to wait until 5 months, but I just felt like going for it yesterday morning and I'm happy I did.
