I am making my own baby food. Does anyone have any advice or recipes for me? My son is 5 months old.

Love icecube trays for freezing food! That way no matter what you are eatting for dinner baby always has something healthy for dinner.  Do not freeze bananas they get very disgusting once thawed out, always make bananas fresh.

I just started feeding my 5 1/2 month old fruits and we have been using the book Top 100 Baby Purees by Annabel Karmel. The recipes are really easy and he seems to like the so far.

I made baby food with my 1st child.   I would puree the foods, and when they got to the point of either being hungrier, or liking it thicker, I would actually add some rice cereal into it, and this seemed to keep him fuller and happier....but yes, at 5 months, still keep it very simple, and try the same food for a few days before introducing others, so you can make sure he's not allergic to what you're feeding him.

I agree with the wholesome foods site.  There is some really good information there.  Here is a link to the kellymom website--http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids... We make our own food and it is so easy, and it is less expensive than buying jarred food, even when buying organic produce.  Avocado, banana, sweet potatoes and butternut squash are some of our favorites.  Making your own cereal is simple too and so much better than the stuff on the shelves.  I make some with wholegrain brown rice and mix it with butternut squash.  It is so good, I sneak a couple of bites!

wholesomebabyfood.com is a great site. I use them too. Whatever food is ok for them to eat at the right age is all you need. I pureed everything and froze it in ice cube trays (each cube is 1oz.). When you make a meal, you just put the cubes in the microwave. I would also add applesauce, leftover breast milk from the last bottle, yogurt, cereals, pasta...you name it and I threw it in there. As long as she passed the 4 day rule with the food I would give it to her. I didn't start solid food until 6 months. At 5 months I introduced a tablespoon of super liquidy rice cereal every day, but no other foods until 6 months. We started with bananas, avocado and apple sauce because it was easy. Check out the website and if you want a book the super baby food book is good too.

the wholesomebabyfood site is excellent! Don't over due it at 5 months though. Babies digestive systems are not able to digest many things.

I found this great website with easy ideas and lots of info. We started with rice cereal mixed with breast milk, then introduced mashed avocado and then banana.

Don't over think it. Just start with really simple foods like peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, bananas, peaches and pears. I steam until the fruit or veggie is soft and then I just stick it in the blender until it is smooth. If you need to add water use the water from the steamer. Good luck!

Try to move slowly when introducing food to a 5 month old. Wait several days between introducing new foods. Check out the book Superimmunity for Kids. I mostly made baby food from fresh, organic vegetables and fruits that I cooked and then pureed. Squash is a great choice, as are apples Sweet potatoes can be baked, scooped, and served without the skin. Avocados can just be scooped and served and so can bananas. Eventually, you can introduce lentils and brown rice or split peas and brown rice.
