My daughter is BF and she will be one soon. I would like to introduce her to milk and I'm not sure how to do this, she isn't sleeping through the night well right now either, I'm hoping its a stage but nights are rough again where before we were set with going to bed at 9:30, 2:00am was a feeding then she would sleep until 5:30 or 6 and then she'd eat again... This is my first completely BF child and it is bringing on a lot more issues/quesitons for me than I expected. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Hello, congrats for breastfeeding!!! Its truly a beautiful experience. I breastfeed my son until he was just about 1. When he was11 months I started intorducing him to 2% milk. I chosed 2% milk because it was not as thick as whole milk. It was the same consistency as bm. I shared this information with my sons pedi and she monitored his weight from 12 mths to 15mths. She said that if he had went down in weight then they would require me to put him on whole milk. babies are more active betweeb 12-24 months because they are learning how to explore and sometimes they may not want to eat so whole milk gives them that cussion because of the extra fat...Now how i started introducing my son to 2% milk was the first week I would give him a cup of 2% a day, tried that to see if he liked it. THen the following week or so I would only give him bm at night and morning. Right before he turned on I gave him 2% only and he does just fine with it. As far as the sleeping I started my son on a schedule at 2 months old. between 8-9pm he knew that it was winddown time for bed. Now he jsut espects it. It became a chant "first you get your bath, then you get your book, next you get your bottle and last its time for bed! Bath, book, bottle, bed!!!" (repeated several times) But that (the chant) only lasted until he was 7 months because he was on cup fully at 7 mths. I would always give him a warm cup of milk at night. This seemed to hold his stomach untill it was breakfast. Also a full dinner would help. (Not to say that you are not doing that) But I give my son a meat, veggie and fruit for dinner between 5:30-7pm (depending on our day) he will get a light snack like goldfishes or a graham cracker between 7:30-8pm. THen its time for the winddown!! You have done great! An yes bf comes with a lot of things the docs or latch cons dont tell you about! But its sooo beneficial!! Not only does bf come with a lot of ?s so does parenting itself and its a great thing this site is ava for us to share experiences and knowledge! No one is perfect and kids dont come with a manual (if they did it would be called "Parenting for Dummies") LOL!! Just take it min by min; hour by hour; and day by day and you will find things that works for you and your family and things that dont!! best of wishes!
