I have been through this. My first turned a year and we were wanting to have number two. I thought I would need to wean him completely (We were down to 2-3 feedings plus his solids and babyfood). Anyways, Just keep trying. How your period works is you ovulate first (which you don't know when that will be so if you are NOT wanting to have a baby always use protection) and then if you don't fertilize the egg THEN you have your period. So you should ovulate before you have a period. You have a chance to get pregnant before you even get that period. I am going on 3.5 years without a period. I was pregnant with my son then breastfed him for over a year and got pregnant with my second son and have been bfing him a year with no period! It is very weird. I had to take a pregnancy test almost every other month because I was so worried I would get pregnant and not know it while I was breastfeeding. Anyways just know that you can get pregnant before your period AND know that you don't have to completely wean for your body to ovulate again.
Again this totally depends on your body. Some women say they had to completely wean for thier flow to return... and some women got thier period within 3 months of having thier baby despite completely breastfeeding! So just keep trying.
Unlike you, I am not trying to concieve this time around so it is slightly frustrating not having my period to count on, telling me around when I am ovulating and when I am Not pregnant! LOL. But good luck to you and enjoy your little one!

I got pregnant when my first child was 21 months old with no period and still breastfeeding and i fed him throughout my pregnancy too and am now tandem feeding my two sons, one who is 2 and half and the other 6 weeks.

Just go with the flow and things will work out how they should

for sure enjoy the freedom of no periods but.......i fell pregnant when my son was 13mths and had only had one period when he was 7mths. apparently you can ovulate without the bleeding when B-Feeding.

I'm 15 months pp and I just got my period back at the end of Dec. and bled for 2 weeks straight. It all depends on your body.

Yes, I agree with the above posts, a co-worker of mine got pregnant while breastfeeding and not menstrating. Just keep in mind it will be difficult to know your "dates" if you do become pregnant, so try to keep records of when you are trying to make the conception date easier to pin-point!

My son is 6 months and I got what I think was my period at 5 months! Exclusively breastfeeding on demand and still I started menstruating. So I wish I was in your shoes!

I'm in the same boat. my daughter is nearly 1 and i'm wanting to have baby no:2. Had one period over a month ago then nothing since (im not pregnant). I thought after stopping night feeds it'd all return to normal but now my daughter is almost fully weaned (only 2 boobie feeds a day) and still no luck. I keep telling myself not to stress about it and it'll happen in its own time. remember you will ovulate before your period so if you're lucky you may get pregnant before they re-start!

I discussed this with my doctor after our baby was born. I was worried about getting pregnant and if I should be using protection. He said, even without a period and even thought I had just given birth, I could get pregnant again easily.
Actaully, when I went to get my IUD installed, my doctor thought I was pregnant and made me take a test, my daughter was only 6 weeks then.
I also know two people who have had 2 babies in the same year. Breastfeeding or not, period or no period, you can get pregnant.

I am in the EXACT same boat, we are stopping precautions to try for number 2 and was wondering also how to know if i am ovulating or fertile.
I guess nature will decide when the time is right, but only problem i have too is that the BF kinda kills the libido so no frequent sex doesnt leave many opportunities for conception! haha Good Luck! And i know everybody's different, it's just hard being patient, my son doesn't look like letting up on the boob anytime soon!

i have a 1 year old and still no period! its just because of the hormones while bf, i have though known people who have got pregnant in this timex

14 month here and no period either. I had to wean at 14 month with my older DD so I could get preggers again but I hear people nurse through pregnancies all the time. Good luck!

Yep... perfectly normal, and yes, you can get pregnant without a period. If you ovulate, you will have a period around two weeks later (unless you're pregnant)... but of course, you may have a period without ovulating, and there's no way to tell for sure if you're getting close to ovulating.

That said, I do know several women who didn't start cycling until their first was closer to 18 months, and I know a few others who couldn't get pregnant until they had COMPLETELY weaned their child. I almost wish I were in your boat. We just found out we're expecting #4... and my oldest is still only 3 1/2. I've gotten pregnant while breastfeeding three times now, and this last time was while still nursing two. It would be really nice to be able to go a full year without a period. :)

I started getting my periods again after my daughter's 1st birthday. You could be ovulating and just not having periods. I agree with Peggy - just keep having sex (such a hardship, I know, LOL)

Good luck with # 2

I never had a period when I was breastfeeding my daughter, however I got pregnant when she was 10 months old. I think it is different for everyone. Good luck.

Typically breast-feeding prevents you to ovulate because for survival purposes children needed to be very far apart. But for most women I know, including me, got their periods between their child's 1st birthday and 4 months after.

I don't really know what to tell you, but I would say enjoy your time with no period and no crazy pregnancy hormones!

Just keep having sex. You might ovulate and get pregnant before you even know you've started ovulating again!

Good luck with #2!!! Peggy
