i've heard that you can lose all of your mucus plug over time and not just at once but how do you know how much of it you've lost? i noticed i lost some today for the first time and im 38 weeks. yesterday my dr. told me i was only dilated to 2cm but i felt "thin". i'm really anxious to have my daughter and i am just wondering how do you know how much is all of it and how long after you lost your mucus plug did you go into labor?

I lost mine a week before my daughter was born and lost it 5 hours before my son was born. It really isn't a tell of anything other then labour is coming or here. Sounds like your labour should be soon and go pretty fast if your cervix is thin. Good luck and contracts on the baby!

I lost my mucus plug when I was in labour, I was having contractions for about 14 hours beforehand.

I lost mine a couple weeks before, but I also was 4 cm for three weeks before I went in to labor I went into the hospital to get my weekly stress test and I was having contractions and I was 5 cm and had no idea I was in labor. I thought that my back was hurting like normal.

I lost mine 3 weeks before my water broke so it's really not a good way to judge. I also walked around 3 cm dialated and 80% effaced (thin) for the last two weeks. It's hard, but you just have to wait it out. Good luck!

I was 2cm for a month before I delivered my daughter. I didn't lose my plug until I was in active labor. Everybody is different. The last few weeks seem like an eternity and the anticipation is almost too much to bare. Patience....it will happen soon! Your body is getting ready!

I lost mine the day I went into labour, it came along with the bloody show early on. If you are already 2 cm I would think you are pretty close to going into labour! Everyone is different though. I was in labour for probably 8 hours before I got to 2 cm :) Good luck! If you want to move things along, walking can help. Try to relax and get lots of sleep, you really need your energy when it comes time to push and you could be awake for 24+ hours during labour.
