Hi ladies.

I had pretty severe postpartum depression. So my doctor put me on Prozac after several other medication failures. I have been on this medication for 3 months now and my 6 month old has also been eating foods for 2 months. I have noticed a DRAMATIC decrease in my breast milk. I've tried mother’s milk tea and pumping frequently however nothing seems to help. I had to give my son formula for the first time today, because my breast literally had nothing for him. It breaks my heart. My goal was to go a full year. I don't want to quit. However I need to remain sane and continue my medication.

Any tips? I would truly appreciate it!

Thank you ladies. I will talk to my doc about fenugreek and reglan, to see what options he thinks would be best.

I've been on Prozac through my entire pregnancy and have been nursing exclusively for nearly seven months and have never noted any problems. Try hydrating extra, and you might add oatmeal to your diet. If nothing helps, you can see your doctor about starting some Reglan (safe for use with Prozac).

Liane: Prozac has been proven safe. It is present in breastmilk in the amount of 1/5th the mother's dosage, but is most likely destroyed by the stomach acids of the infant.

I forgot to mention, check with your doctor before you take any fenugreek to ensure there are no reactions to mixing the prozac with it :)

Is it safe to take prozac and still be nursing??? With my first born I was put on Zoloft and was advised to stop nursing as the medication was not safe for the baby. As far as increasing milk supply you can try taking fenugreek. You have to take two or three capsules up to 3 times a day to really get full effects from it. I wish you luck!
