Is it hard on my baby's tummy if I feed him breastmilk during the day and formula at night?

My son is 2 weeks old. We have been trying to figure out what I'm eating that is causing his diarrhea. I have found it easiest to give him Similac at night if he has diarrhea so he doesn't have such a sore bottom in the morning. I wanted to make sure that doing this wasn't harming him with the sudden switches. Any advice?

They are very watery. And he went through a package of 36 diapers in a day and a half. I have been cutting out certain parts of my diet to figure out what is causing it. So far today he has been okay with probably 8 stools after I cut out peanuts.

Are his poops watery, or slimy/mucusy? If they're slimy or seem to have mucus in them then it's a good chance he is having a reaction to a food that you are eating. The most common food sensitivity in babies is to dairy (cow milk proteins) but it could also be soy, eggs, peanuts, wheat, gluten, fish, shellfish, etc.

Before I discovered my daughters dairy intolerance she had blow out runny slimy poops every day, and many times would also have diaper rash. Shortly after I cut out dairy, she started having more "normal" poop, and the diaper rash also cleared up. My daughter also had had congestion that just wouldn't clear up, and would throw up at random times. Cutting out the dairy cleared up her congestion and she doesn't throw up ever now unless we accidentally get some dairy in her or my diet.

Now - all that being said, newborn poops are generally runny. Not watery and not slimy, but no form to them. Yellow and seedy is very typical of a breastfed newborn poop. However if you've introduced formula already they can be soft and brown.

How are you determining that your baby has diarrhea? How often is he pooping? Are his poops runny?
