I have a cold ... and I just wanted to know if it was safe to BF while taking my sinus medication. I am taking fenugreek too because im scared the medicine will dry my milk up lol.

I get sinus infections as well. For me it happened twice while I was still breast feeding my son. BUT that was the first thing that I advised my doctor. The provided me with meds that were safe to take while breast feeding. Also doing a Sinus cleans works great its salt water and is safe enough to do every 2hours to help ease the pain I place those hot bags you can heat up in the microwave and I place it over my face. Also google pressure points there are some in your hand and I think feet for sinuses to relieve the pressure in your sinuses/head. Best of luck and double check with your doctor to see if it is okay to take while breastfeeding.

i didn't take anything whenever i was sick...i was just too paranoid. i found that nursing my son was kind of a good remedy. it forced me to sit and relax and just close my eyes. i guess it is ok since you already started taking the medicine..just make sure your milk supply was strong to begin with. if you worry about low supply, i would stop the meds

As long as your milk supply is well-established, most cold medications are safe to use while breastfeeding.

You can visit this website and enter in your medication and it will give amounts found in breastmilk, the infant's urine, and possible effects on milk production and the infant:

I had a few colds when I was nursing my first baby. I checked with her doc first, but was able to continue. She also got colds about the same time and it helped her get better. I generally only did a sinus rinse and sat in the steamy bathroom often. This is about all you can do for a baby, so it is totally safe for mom nursing. When I had to, I took cough drops and tylenol. Once or twice I took sudafed around her schedule (took one at night once she slept though the night).

Well... the Dr. shouldn't give you anything that you can't take while nursing! always ask your Dr. before taking any meds while breastfeeding your baby. It's not going to hurt the baby though if your sick, just make sure what your taking is safe! :)
