Large Chested Breatfeeding Mommies

Just wondering... I have large breasts and cannot seem to get my little girl to latch on with a regular cradle hold or side lying position. For 5 months the only thing we've been able to do is the football hold with help of a Boppy. (my breasts are pretty much in my elbow so holding her in the cradle hold isn't comfortable at all) Just wondering if any other "big boob breastfeeders" have other positions they use, or if we're doomed to the football hold forever! the only reason is that it makes it a lot harder trying to feed when away from home because of the limitations with positioning.

football hold works good, but so does cradle hold, just watch it , because bubbies like to find one faveorite then by the time they get 6-7 months they wont feed in any other position, ive been DD my whole life and BF all my kids, so it can be done , thought the twins are a challenege, i am kind of thankfull i have big boobs for that , it actually makes the double babies feeding easier !

Have you looked into a My Brest Friend pillow? It helped me ALOT for the first few months.

I have the big boobies happening as well, and the football hold was getting annoying, so I bought a breast feeding pillow that you attach with a strap around yourself (my brest friend) - it lifted my boy up closer to the boob, and meant that I could use one hand to cup the breast away from his face (the Good old C shape hold) whilst the other hand kept him on the pillow. It worked a charm! Now that he's 11 months, all I need to do is put a pillow under his head whilst sitting him in my lap, and the same thing applies, one hand to hold him, one to hold the boob. When out and about, we either find a chair with good arm rests, or I have to put the leg his head is on, up on something to prop him up. Good Luck, and keep perservering!

I have a G36 chest, and I had no problem holding the baby the normal way. You just need to fumble with it a bit and find out what is comfortable for you and you baby. Congrats on breastfeeding and good luck.

The way the lactation consultant showed me to nurse with my first baby was by lying him on a pillow next to me while I was sitting up. Then put your arm under his upper body and hold him up in a sitting position facing you and allow him to latch on that way. I am a triple D while not breast feeding, and this was the best position I found to nurse my babies while they are very small. Once they get bigger, the cradle position will work better. Good luck!

My breasts seem huge to me right now, since we're only eight months into breastfeeding, but I know other women have much more ample bosoms than I have to contend with. All I can offer is what has helped me, especially when my daughter was younger. I would make a "breast sandwich", cupping my breast with a c-shaped grip and gently squeezing it to flatten it and draw my nipple/areola forward so that my breast wouldn't cover her face and so she could get a good grip. Now that she is older and her head is bigger, we don't have as much trouble. Every little one nurses differently....my best advice is to hang on and trust that she'll grow to catch up with your breasts.

Both of my children always enjoyed me laying on my back and them on top. They were able to quickly fall asleep on those "pillows" to ;)

I sit a certain way side ways on sofa with lap top on arm of chair, not directly on to face but side ways so baby can breath. Hard to explain without show you. Easy when in bed to. Its hard to so standing, sitting is best.

I sort of have the curse of big boobs and saggy but they have sort of shrunk since i had my daughter but she 19mths and still breastfeeding and well the best things is find what works or just be persistant and just try your best to keep breastfeeding. But I just think no matter how long you can breast feed for your doing a great job.

My daughter likes to lay down with me and feed, she also likes the cradle but I have to hold her and my breast and sometimes it's awkward now that she's getting bigger... but luckily she likes to feed when she wants to feed and as long as she's feeding she doesn't seem to care what position she's in...

we could only do football hold too, it got frustrating sometimes, especially now that she is bigger, she likes to kick whatever is behind us so it yanks on me sometimes, i found that the only other way that worked, when she got a little bigger, about 6 months, was sitting indian style on the floor with her butt cradled in my foot, the foot on the side opposite of the one she was nursing on. that way i could lay her head on my knee (same side as nursing on) and use both hands to help my breast so i didnt suffocate her. it is kind of difficult to describe but this is what we did when we weren't at home and comfortable with the boppy.

we started with the football hold, now he likes to lay and nurse...but that isnt always the case, when he wants to be active. at that point any chance of bfing is hopeless unless hes laying on top of me tummy to tummy...lol

im not huge but i was unlucky and have always had saggy breasts. the easiest thing i find is just to lay my daughter in my lap. i sometimes cross my leg over the other so she is cradled, maybe give it a try

Some babies are picky no matter what...my first would feed siting up facing me, on my lap, football, whatever. My second really likes to be laying down. He squirms alot and lifts his legs if i lay him across my lap. It does limit going out because there is no where to lay down of course. It seems like the football position is the best. Good luck and high five to big boobies! lol
