Leaking and simultaneous let down

Whenever I feed my 8 week old, both breasts let down and I leak like a faucet. I go right through the cloth breast pads and end up having to change whatever I have on if I forget to stuff my bra with a cloth diaper before I nurse my baby. Sometimes I'll let down spontaneously even if I'm not feeding.

Any suggestions? I'd love to just be able to feed him normally without having to worry about what the other breast is going to do?

my daughter is 5 months. When i first feed her my other boob will leak. I just press and hod for a minute and it stops. When i am away from her and think about her or if it is time for her to feed i will leak

My daughter is 7 weeks old, and I have the same problems.  Over the past few weeks it has greatly improved.  I was going through a set of pads in an hour or two, and now I rarely have to replace them.  I also found that disposable ones are the best.  The cloth ones would leave me with a big wet spot!

That happened to me too, it's completely normal and part of the fun I guess, LOL :P I read all about how using cloth nursing pads was so much better than disposables, but I gave up when I was constantly soaking through them all the time. Really, there's nothing wrong with the disposable ones, they are comfortable, just make sure to change them often, and get a good brand. I like the Lansinoh or LeLeche League ones.

Don't worry, it doesn't last forever. Having letdown spontaneously goes away fairly soon, and eventually you stop leaking altogether. My son is 7 months, I'd say at around 4 months I was done with leaking and spontaneous letdowns. I still wear nursing pads because of the letdown when I'm feeding him, but that is the only time, and the only reason I still wear them is that if I don't I'll forget to put something there when I feed, and knowing my luck will be out in public with wet spots on my boobs, LOL

Yes, this happens at first and was one thing that almost drove me crazy! But, you are doing exactly what I did... cloth diaper, that is what did it, or a hand towel. Eventually with in the next month or two that will stop, promise! :-) A friend of mine promised and I was like, no way, I leak so much, but it does eventually stop. It will less to where you can use the breast pads again (unfortunately disposal ones do work best, even though I really like my hemp ones) and then it stops altogether. Hang in there!

It does calm down with time - if you're at home just take off whatever you're wearing and sit their with a bottle - that way you'll have some to freeze and use at a later date if you want.

Thanks for the responses.  Glad to know it should calm down.  I keep forgetting that both of us are still pretty new at this!

I also had the exact same problem In the first three months,(my son is now 6 months) I would apply a little pressure to my nipple area and It would stop long enough for me to grab a cloth. Please keep in mind your body will begin to make what your baby needs and at least for me I no longer have to use breast pads,or sheilds, I have no more mess. I am still nursing ad much as before but there is less mess then ever before.

I had this back in the early days of feeding. I got some breast shells that you put over your breast, inside your bra, and this collects the leaked milk. I only needed to wear them for a short while before my supply calmed down. I still used to get a let down after I stopped using them but found that I could suppress it by holding my hand against my breast for a minute. As soon as you feel the tingle, just press against it. I gave up with the cloth breast pads, they just didn't work, and used disposable ones, Now my flow's calmed I have switched back  to cloth.
