Ladies, I need a bit of advice. In short, I was out at a restaurant and my 3month old got hungry so we got into position. It was our first time nursing in full public, we've used the mother's room at BRU and the office at the car shop; but this was the absolute first very public feeding. I had left the apron thingy in another bag and only had a blanket...my daughter absolutely hated it. She fussed and arched her back...i finally had to stick my head under the blanket to be sure of a good latch and to calm her. I'm a pretty good size...36G at last measure and have to hold my breast while she nurses. Any suggestions on getting her okay with the cover up?

Thank you all. Great idea about the towel, Hannah. I'm gonna try that tonight. Patricia, my sister had given me a shawl to use but in addition to leaving it in another diaper bag, I couldn't quite figure out how it was supposed to work one day and got a bit frustrated. But we will press on, I do enjoy these snuggly times.

you could try buying a nursing shawl that has a strap that allows you to hang it from your neck so it stays on without you having to worry about holding it up or the baby pulling it off. I bought one on amazon.com for about $30 ( i forget the name of it, it comes in many colors and prints) the nicest feature is that it has a firm edge at the top like a wire sewn into the cloth that keeps the shawl open at the level of your neck/upper chest and you can look down and straight at your baby and you baby can see you and get some light from above but from the side and the front no one can see anything. Babies often had the cover b/c it gets hot and they can't see anything. This way there is some circulation and a view. Check it out search for nursing shawl and read reviews. There are different kinds but you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it on line.

I don't have any suggestions on the covering issues, but I'm very large chested too (38E), and I was having to hold my breast also- until I read this great tip. Just prop your breast up with a rolled up hand towel or burp cloth! I roll up a clean burp cloth (Gerber cloth diaper) and pop it under the boob- and voila! My LO no longer is smothered!

I have had those moments already with two kiddos and will soon have #3, so I can relate. First of all, good for you!! Breastfeeding is tough at times, but so worth it!! There will always be that place where you got to go undercover, and even then people will stare! And there's not much to see with my little C's!!

I had the same thing with both girls, they have a tough time getting used to that cover. I would just use it more often especially at home where you are both most comfortable. The more you include it at home, the more comfortable and at ease you'll both be in a strange place!

Good luck and hang in there! Enjoy these sweet, snuggly days with your little one!!!
