Medela Pump in Style or Freestyle?

Hi folks,

I'm starting to look at pumps to start to store some milk so that my husband can bottle feed our daughter at night. I'll also be going back to work when she's about 6 months old, so we'll need to pump then. I've narrowed my choices down to the Medela Pump in Style and the Medela Freestyle, and it seems like the main differences between the two are $100 and the ability to pump hands-free. Is the hands-free worth the extra cost? Does anyone have experience with these particular pumps?

If you are serious about wanting to pump and continue breastfeeding, I definitely recommend the Pump in Style. (And if you are going to bother with pumping, you might as well stick with it for a decent amount of time!)

I used both (and tried a third option too) and liked the Pump in Style the best. Hands free and control over the "pull" is GREAT. It took me half the time to pump with the Pump in Style as it did with the other two options I tried, and it was easier.

I have the pump in style and I love it. I've been pumping for 3 months now and I haven't had any let down or supply problems. Since I have to pump about 6 times per day I do wish I had gotten the Freestyle now because it would be great to not be tied to at wall socket but the pump in style does come with a battery powered attachment that I have used several times. I have a bra that I bought for $20 that can make any pump hands free so I've made my pump in style as mobile as possible for when my son needs my attention or the phone rings. As for work, you probably won't need the mobility that Freestyle offers. I think the Freestyle has a couple more pieces to clean so that might be a consideration as well.

I am wondering the same thing, I have a medela "swing" right now which I love, but I work 12hr shifts and I am going to be going back to work when my daughter is 9 or 10 months so I will need to pump at least a couple times and pump quickly! ( I am a paramedic so I have no idea how much time I will have to pump) I am hoping to nurse as long as I can ( I follow child led weaning) my son weaned himself at 13 months, but my daughter seems alot more passionate about nursing so I am hoping we can continue to at least 2yrs if not longer.. So if anyone can give me some advice on which one they have and like that would be great too!

I have a Pump In Style and like it a lot. Medela also makes a pumping bra to allow for hands-free pumping.

I only have exp. with a Medela hospital grade pump which I rented after my son was born. I only pumped for about 3 months and I can say that the appeal of a hands-free pump is very interesting to me for my 2nd baby coming soon. The pump I had was a double, but that tied up both my hands for 20 minutes every couple hours. If I could have even read a book or talked on the phone it would have been so much nicer. :)
