So my 11 month old just weened herself from night time breast. My cramps have become increasingly more painful, I dread that after nearly 20 months my period is coming home. Before I became pregnant I used to have awful, painful periods and now that it is coming back Im scared. My daughter still nurses during the day, does anyone know if taking motrin or something stronger could be a danger to leaking into my milk supply? I know that advil isn't a problem, but think this might call for the next level up. I will probably end up going to whole foods and buying something a little more on the natural track, but am looking for any feedback.
Thank you

"Because of its extremely low levels in breastmilk, short half-life and use in infants in doses much higher than those excreted in breastmilk, ibuprofen is a preferred choice as an analgesic or antiinflammatory agent in nursing mothers."

What 'next level up' drug are you considering?

The above website is peer-reviewed. You can enter any drug into the search engine.

Your local La Leche League Group should have a copy of Thomas Hale's Medications and Mother's Milk.

If you get back to us and list the drug you are considering I can check my own copy.

I EBF and I take Ibuprofen if I need it. I try desperately not to take ANYTHING, because even though that's safe, it still gets into your breastmilk and that baby gets the chemical (again it's safe anyways but I just like to avoid it if I can). I give my son baby Ibuprofen if necessary so I'm sure that's perfectly safe. If your worried, call your doctor.

I take Ibuprofen and that does not effect, but like Amy said, def check with Your Dr. I have a mother milk book, but of course it is at my job, I work at our local health dept. and we have 3 lactation consultants there!! If you need more help hook me up on here and let me know!! Good luck to you!!

You should probably ask your Doctor! Everything you take/eat can affect your milk (and therefore your child), so I would def. call your Doctor or talk to a lactation consultant. Most pediatricians also offer lactation services. Good luck! I have totally forgotten what it's like to have a period.....not looking forward to that again! :/ Hope you get some relief!
