Milk Bleb?! Please Help!

I've been breastfeeding my 4.5 month old exclusively. Saturday night my left breast became extremely engorged and nursing is excruciating! I started to pump and use heat but the engorgement hasn't gone down. I noticed during pumping early this morning that I have a white bump on my nipple, after some research via the internet I think it might be a clogged nipple duct. Has anyone experienced this? If so, what can I do to rectify it? I'm waiting for the lactation and my primary care to call me.

Thanks Ladies! The bleb finally went away and I can nurse on that side now. I filled a diaper with hot water and placed it on the area for 10 minutes and then I pumped and I could actually see the bleb go away. It was a painful experience and I hope to never experience it

I second what everyone says about nursing as much as possible. Also, to help the process along when I had a clogged duct my mom recommended taking a very warm bath and letting my breasts hang. Like, lying face down with my arms supporting me on the sides of the tub. Try this and massage the area, hand express and keep the water really hot. It really helped and it definitely made it feel better.

I've read that cabbage leaves will help with the pain, but they can also dry up your supply! When I searched for a friend how to dry up her milk it said cabbage leaves will help to relieve the pain AND dry up the milk!! Just a heads up!

i've had that happen twice. the first time, nothing i did helped. i tried heat, cold, massage, pumping, etc...nothing worked...i finally went to the doctor. they gave me keflex (antibiotic) and it cleared it up a day or two later. the second time it happened, i caught it early on, so massage and a heating pad cleared it up in a few hours.

Cabbage leaves can decrease your supply, so only use those if you want to decrease your supply.

If it's a plugged duct, nurse as much as possible. If you can identify where the plugged duct is, point your baby's chin towards the plug (that's where the suck is strongest).

I have had quite a few. I pop some ibuprofen, grab my baby, and we nurse nurse nurse.

I have had a handful of "blebs" and while they are painful, the solution is to nurse from that side ALOT. After two weeks eventually the milk came through. I heard you aren't "supposed" to pop them your self, but I took a pair of medical scissors and snipped a little hole in it and then the milk could come through again and it healed but I wouldnt recomend it since it's probably bad to do that.

Although it's painful, everyone I talked to said to nurse on the side with the bleb so the milk can come through and your can relieve the pressure. Good luck.

I haven't had a clogged duct but whenever I was encourged to the point of pain, I always used Cabbage leaves. They are natural pain reliever. Just something else to try! Hope you feel better soon.
