milk supply problems

My baby is 2 months old and takes 4 oz at a time of breastmilk. I work so I pump every 3 hours while at work.My problem is that I'm barely able to pump the 4 oz she is taking at one time. I have tried all of the herbal remedies and also have tried reglan. These have helped some but after a few days I seem to be "immune" to them. I have been trying to pump more frequently (every 2 hours) like the lactation consultant said but when I do I just pump less at each session. When I combine the amount that I'm pumping it equals the same amount as it would have been if I were to just wait the 3 hours. It seems as if I make all of the milk I will have for the entire day each morning. If I empty my breasts in the morning after she has fed then it seems like I produce less. Does this make sense to anyone? It just seems that the more I pump the less I make. Any help would be appreciated.

My milk supply seemed low in the beginning, then all of us sudden nipple pads were no longer optional. I breastfed and pumped at first. I think if you keep pumping throughout the day, as if you were actually breastfeeding, your milk supply will increase. Good luck!

It's not true that the more you pump, the less you'll make. The more stimulation your breasts receive, the more signals your body will get to make milk. I'm not sure why increasing the amount of pumping isn't working for you, but lots of moms just don't respond well to pumping. It isn't any fault of your supply.. just that pumps are not the same as a baby sucking. Have you checked to make sure the shields of the pump are the right size? You may also have to pump on weekends or add in some extra pumping sessions when you are home to stimulate your body to make more. Good luck to you.. I know the frustration.. I hate pumping!
