me and my husband went to Stars & strips in Lubbock *which is a drive in movie theatre* it was really intresting I had never been too a Drive in Movie before. The baby was getting hungry she kept crying so I decided to take her into the bathroom in the back. I went into a stall and began to feed her. I heard some feet shuffling toward my stall which didn't appear to be occupied I guess. They opened the door I got startled and my milk shot right into her face. So I covered my boob up and left.
THE SECOND MOMENT- I was at an airport, and my baby kept growing hungry, but there where bunches of people everywhere, so I went into what I assumed to be a quiet area to feed her. A man sat right down behind me. to me luckily he couldn't see my nipple because the baby's mout was on it he dropt something behind him so he rubbed against my boob making my baby's mouth come out and my boob fly out and milk went right onto his pack then he said 'damn it' and he looked at my boobs and left. how ruuude!

My daughter was about 3 or 4 weeks old and I live in Hawaii so my dad and sister had to fly out to see her. We went out to eat at a really nice restaurant on the water and were seated outside right against a glass wall behind the stage inside the restaurant.

Long story short, a band was playing on the stage while I was breastfeeding, facing the glass as to not face the company at the table when a wind came around and blew off the cover and distracted my baby so she let go and basically everyone in the restaurant watching the band go a nice view of my shirt up and my boob out.

It didn't embarass me (I thought it was funny) but I think my dad had a real "Oh god, that's my daughter" moment. Hehehe.

Alright, after 18 months of proudly breastfeeding and still going strong, I have an arsenal of breastfeeding stories, some embarassing, some funny, some sweet, some maddening!
Besides the usual someone coming up and peeking under the blanket only to discover a nipple in a babys mouth I have two stories that really mortified me! One was, my daughter was about 3 months old and colicky, I had a serious lack of sleep and she was nursing NON STOP! I had one of those breastfeeding tank tops that you just unclip the breast section, pull it down and voila, easy access! Well, I was wearing just that one day (with pants of course!) because it was hot and she was ona nursing frenzy (dang growth sputs!) Little did I know, my husband had ordered something from online and the UPS rang the door bell to deliver the package. I put my daughter down and went to the answer the door, he kept giving me the craziest looks while avoiding any eye contact while I signed the little slip and I figured I just looked worse for the ware that day. Unti I lifted the package and held it against my chest to carry it inside and realized I had never clipped my tank top back up and had been flashing the poor guy the entire time!!! I had to laugh, but it's still embarassing.
The other story is, I was at a baby shower and had brought my daughter with. I used washable, reusable nursing pads at the time (highly reccomend, they worked GREAT!) and had to feed baby in the back of the car in the driveway before entering. We went inside and I loaded my gift on the gift table and the shower was great. It came time for the mom-to-be to open her gifts and she got to mine. She pulled out the card, read it...then pulled out my thankfully dry nursing pad!!!! I must have set it on/in the bag while nursing in the car and forgot all about it!!! I'm sure my face was beet red as I went up there to retrieve, but thankfully the mom-to-bewas cool about it, especially since she planned on breastfeeding she was just glad she wouldn't be the only with a breastfeeding blunder!!!

Not really an emberassing story, but funny. Shortly after our first son was born I was sitting in bed reading. My son was due to wake up to eat any minute. I was engorged. I also had no shirt on trying to air out my nipples because they were getting sore. I reached over to grab something and my arm pressed against the side of breast and milk shot half way across the room. My husband and I both burst out laughing. I had no idea it could shoot so far.

I was never embarassed to breastfeed my daughter an did it literally anywhere but I did have one funny moment. She was only a couple of months old and we were at a coffee shop, I wasn't paying much attention as she was a good feeder and I could literally feed her while I was eating/drinking too. Anyway she suddenly pulled off the boob right as I had a let down and this huge stream of milk shot out of my boob straight at the person walking past our table. The person who got 'hit' just started walking quickly. I still laugh about it but I don't think everyone else found it as funny as I did.

I go to postnatal gym classes at the hospital with other mothers. I was breastfeeding my 11 week old when another mother came in and sat next to me. She flopped out her breast and started feeding her son. As she did this, my son stopped sucking me, his jaw dropped, with his mouth wide open (as if shocked) and wouldn't stop staring at this mothers breast! I kept trying to put him back on but he wouldn't stop staring. Was the first time he'd seen another mother breastfeeding! Her boob was much bigger than mine. Maybe he was a bit jealous. I thought it was a bit funny.

The only time I ever felt embarrassed was the day I shot a "breastfeeding specialist" in the eye. I was a few weeks away from going back to work and was getting a pump--my little guy got hungry so I was nursing him while an employee was going over various pumps/features with me. My son popped off to look around and I shot milk across the room......it hit the wall behind her and got her in the eye. Oops. Luckily, she thought it was really funny and erupted into giggles for a while :p

And I used to really embarass my MIL, who couldn't understand why I would do "that" where people could see me :p One day I was sitting in her living room nursing the baby. My FIL comes in, leans over to talk to the baby and tickle his cheek and then sits down in the chair across from me to chat. A few minutes later, my MIL comes in, sees that I'm nursing and shoos her husband out of the house and then shuts herself into her room until its "safe" to come out again. You'd think I was experimenting with biohazardous material or something......

My daughter was maybe 5 weeks old, and we went to my fiance's aunt's softball game. There was an extra diamond open when my daughter decided she was hungry. I walked over to feed her, and a guy walked up behind me. Apparently, there was a walking path behind me... He just walked up and asked if I was preparing for the next game. "Umm, no. Just nursing my daughter." He just walked on, but he was walking to the diamond my aunt's game was at... He watched me as I walked back to the stands.

It's not so much that I was embarrassed at it was that I was startled that someone was behind me.

When little guy was 8 months old I had to bring him to work because he was sick. I teach college students, and I brought him to lecture in his sling. Though I had fed him before lecture, partway through he starts pulling down my shirt and mouthing my chest! I had to stop lecturing and explain to the students I wasn't trying to flash them, but Noah had no sense of modesty... They laughed, but it was so awkward trying to prevent 48 college students from seeing everything!
The pumping stories are always more embarassing, for some reason! I pump in my office several times a day and have had two coworkers let themselves into my office, only to find me exposed! The do not disturb sign didn't work!
My in-laws are completely uncomfortable with my bf, but at church a few weeks ago MIL was holding him and he lunged for her boob, right as the pastor was starting his final prayer! It was hilarious, but we had to wait until we were outside after to laugh!! Priceless!!

i was 16 when i had my son && my entire life i wanted to BF, so i did. && he took to it amazingly :) i wasnt embarassed any to nurse him, i just didnt want to make any one else feel uncomfortable so i always used a blanket, but i did get weird looks b/c i am so young. But it was for my son to make his life better so i didnt care, i had to stop when he was about 5 1/2 weeks b/c i had to go back to school & i couldnt get any one to let me pump. He still really loves boobs tho & its hilarious! :)

The most embarassing story would prolly have to be when i was in the mall (a huge one) & the blanket fell off & i was completely exposed. lol

I was waiting for my husband to be done with his training, and I was sitting in the car and my son got hungry. But I forgot my cover so I had to use his spit up rag. I thought he was falling asleep, so I just relaxed. Next thing I knew, his arm comes up and tears it off, JUST as a few Soldiers are walking by. I think they were more traumatized than I was lol. My nursing cover always stays in the diaper bag now haha.

I have never been embarrassed to be seen breastfeeding my children. I have 2 daughters I nursed each until about a year and a half until they self weaned. I am now pregnant with my third. The only thing I ever found a bit embarrassing was when I would leak thru my shirt in public if I forgot to put my nursing pad back in place :-)...Nothing like a wet tshirt to make you blush LOL

Well they left it in my room, and I was breastfeeding my daughter....My husband thought it would be funny to take a picture of me nursing so the hospital staff could all get a laugh of that on their camera. I was so embarrased!

oh, actually just remembered another one... I was at a wedding, I ducked into another room to feed my daughter (too many people I didn't know at the wedding) I was chatting to another woman while I was on my way back to the table, got to the table, sat down & my husband looks at me... "pull your dress up... " I can understand people are drunk... but really, when you see someone's boob haning out of their dress.. you should totally let them know!!! :-) We had been chatting for like 5 minutes. Luckily it was only bra showing, but black bra, red dress, it was fairly obvious.

Mine isn't actually breastfeeding, just relating to it. I was with a group of friends, and my daughter was getting very fussy. I looked at her and said "is it time for bobbies?" then realised I had said it a little louder than I meant to when the male friend sitting next to me started laughing. I went bright red, and strated to withdraw the comment a little. He grinned and said it was a question everyone should have asked every now and then.

I don't have any embarressing breastfeeding stories but my older sister has a tonne of them. She was breastfeeding her eldest daughhter and fell asleep with the baby in her arms. All of a sudden she felt a sharp bite when she awoke she found her father puppy trying to breastfeed. The dog is fully grown and whenever she vists her dad's it follows hr everywhere

She also fell asleep on a planride with her daughter. Her daughter woke up and pulled her breast out of her shirt and contiuned to feed. My sister was seated in the back of the plane right near the washroom. The little girl fell asleep leaving her breast exposed the whole plain ride. Pretty much everyone saw it because it was a long flight and everyone had to pass her to use the washroom. The funniest part of it was my sisters mouth was wide open and she was snoring loud and drooling too!

The first time my step son met his brother was after he flew in from CA. My step son was 7 at the time. It's a 3 hour trip from the airport to our house. The flight got in kind of late in the evening and my husband had to work early the next day. So, I grabbed my hand pump, just in case. We didn't want to have to stop on the way home just for the baby to nurse. Well, sure enough my baby got hungery while we were driving. SO there I was, in the front passenger seat, trucking down the interstate trying to pump. Of course we forgot a blanket because it was summer.. So I'm just trying to be as dicrete as possible. The baby's carseat is in the back, and my step son was behind my husband, so I didn't think he could really see anything. Until I hear a somewhat frightened voice say "Dawn...." He had been watching me pump and had no clue what was going on. I guess we should have explained the process of pumping to him BEFORE my boob was on the pump?? lol So as I'm trying to explain my husband starts laughing his head off and waving. I'm like "thanks dear!" We are going 70 mph down the road and he's waving like a gooftard, not paying a bit of attention to the road.. Out of habit I turn to see what's going on, and I see my much older cousin, who is a truck driver, driving right next us, waving, excited to have met us on the interstate. Because he was so much higher than us he got a full view of everything...

Another time, my son was older and not nursing as much. I had stopped wearing breast pads because I never leaked anymore. Well, I was in a conference with my son at home with dad. Someone opened the door and there was a baby in the hall, crying. I started feeling that tingling of my milk dropping. Before I could get out of the room both sides of my shirt were soaked through. I went to the bathroon and of course, no hand dryer. Only paper towels. I was forced to go back to the conference with my shirt still wet. It was great! LOL

And I could not tell you how many people I have squrited. Including one of my brother-in-laws. In the face...

[deleted account]

I was having a huge busy day... full of errands and chores. I had just pulled into the grocery store parking lot and the boy started fussing. I jumped in the back seat with him and we nursed for maybe ten minutes. I spent that time scribbling down more groceries so as soon as he was done, I snatched him up and into the store we go. I threw him into a buggy and started my way into produce.... whoah it's like... COLD in here! I hugged myself with both hands and started to rub up and down to make some heat... and I rubbed my NIPPLE! I look down and that boob was still hanging out from way back there in the CAR! Every buggy pusher, bag packer, grocery checker and produce worker saw me!

So... By embarrassing, I also mean awkward...

Here's a great traveling story...

I was a bridesmaid for my friend and on the way to the rehearsal dinner I had to pump but didn't have time to stop and pump so I did it in the back of the car. Our windows are tinted so I thought no one would see. My husband then informed me at a red light that the guy on the bus next to us was somehow staring into our car watching me pump. I guess the sun from the front of the car gave him a good view... I then quickly grabbed a blanket, it was a great story to tell my friends, but really awkward.

Another time I was traveling by plane when my daughter was 2 months old to see my side of the family and meet her for the first time, I didn't cover up because the blanket i had for her had her blow out all over it. So there I was feeding her when the guy across the aisle from me said, " Mam, you dropped this." Apparently it was my breast pad.

I too was feeding in a car in the front seat parked away from a fast food place when a woman drove by and smiled when going in, she then chose to drive that way again and smile while I was breastfeeding my daughter.

In the hospital I was having a hard time feeding my daughter and I was asking the nurse for help and they literally grabbed my nipple to try and feed my daughter.

My husband's father is also a pastor, so we went to his church when my daughter was a month. As he was introducing my husband's siblings I had to sneak away into the back room meant for children and it had glass. I thought the glass was mirrored on the side facing the congregation. Turns out it wasn't and I got introduced to the whole congregation while breast feeding, all I could do was just wave with a pink face.

I also was visiting my family in SoCal, I went into another room to feed my daughter and my aunt barged in with her camera and wanted to take pictures of my daughter and her cousin... This didn't end pretty.

needless to say... every time it's been awkward I just don't think something that bad could happen again and it does...

Now my daughter sometimes tries to latch onto my husband. lol.

[deleted account]

I was at my parents, breastfeeding my daughter. and when i pulled away my nipple, it was squirting milk, like straiiiight out like 2 feet far, like alot of milk. from more than one little hole in your nipple, and it went everywhere on the couch, table, me, my baby. my sister was laughing so hard. Thats when my boobs were engorged. They still do that though lol

I am so happy I'm not the only one! I absolutely love bf'ing but have also had some "incidents" along the way too! I was a bridesmaid for a friends wedding and my daughter was just approaching 5 mos. old. I was careful to bring many nursing pads along so I didn't leak and I brought my pump to do at least one session. I made it to the reception almost in a panic! I hadn't been able to pump after the ceremony and we went for pictures in a park. I felt like I was going to burst! I grabbed the pump and ran into the handicap stall in the bathroom. I had just started let down when the stall flew open. I was double pumping and totally exposed! I was mortified! Thank god it was one of the girls from the wedding that I knew and she was ok with it once she understood what was going on! I am never really embarrassed feeding my daughter but when I'm using the pump I can imagine how weird it looks! Lol!

Well, mine isn't technically a BFing story, but it's definitely related.

My sister-in-law was having her rehearsal dinner at a restaurant. I left my baby at home that night with my parents. But, as it was my first time BFing, I was prone to clogged ducts, and so I was very careful about pumping on the rare occasion I was away from my baby.

It was about time for me to pump, so I checked the bathroom to find there were no outlets. So I asked the manager if they had a place for me to pump. She offered her office, which happened to have no door on it. I asked my husband to come with me and "guard" the "door" while I pumped. As I was in the middle of pumping, a very young waiter came barging in before my husband could stop him. That poor kid! I think he thought I was using a Medieval torture device! I'm sure he'll never look at breasts in quite the same way, LOL!

Lol...I live on a dairy farm operated by my boyfriends family...so the jokes are endless. When I pump and they see how much I got the standard joke has become "geez, gonna have to put you out in the barn soon!!" My boyfriend also looked at my chest near the end of my pregnancy and chuckled, telling me I was gonna make a good milk cow, and started calling me his little Guernsey...haha!!

My daughter dose that same sign for more milk. and thats one I never showed her.. its so cute how they learn things. :)

I have never really been embarrassed to BF in public. I have had alot of ppl come up to me and tell me im doing a great job. and its really nice when they do that when DADDY is with..

I have had ppl offer to get me a pop or water, when its taken a while sitting in a food court. or ppl who offer to open a door or grab a napkin if the baby gets a little messy.

I have had the best experiences ever BF'ing my baby.. and cant wait to have the next. (10 weeks pregnant, and proudly still Breastfeeding a 14month old) :)

I haven't been embarrassed breastfeeding, bu I have had a few wardrobe malfunctions. I have a couple of shirts that i can just pull the neck down and undo my nursing bra for beebs to get access. Sometimes I forget to pull the shirt back up. I walked around town for 2 hours with my right boob (in the bra, thank god) popping out from the neck of my v neck shirt.

Well, embarrassing is not the word I would use. I've never been embarrassed when breastfeeding. When my daughter was about 5 months, I stopped using a cover because she started to play with it. One of the first times I nursed in public without it, I was on the patio at Starbucks and she heard some loud voices. She rolled away and exposed my breast just as a group of 15 year old boys were walking by. They got quite a show.

What was embarrassing is when we were out to dinner when she was around 10 or 11 months. The waitress was wearing a low cut top and oohing & ahhing over my daughter. She reached out, grabbed the waitress' breast and yelled, "na na". Ha ha ha oops!

Well, I have never really been 'embarrassed' about nursing. I mean, I have nursed everywhere, and in front of every type of audience at this point so I am desensitized.

However its the side-effects of nursing that still get me to blush.

My FIL gave me a look the other day and stated, "you've just about doubled in size since you started nursing!" (We don't have that kind of relationship)

Or the fact that Ella gropes me if I ignore her sign for milk.

Or that I still leak if she cries.

Never been embarrassed to nurse but I had an over-abundant supply with my son for the first few months and there were a few times where I would be trying to hold a conversation with somebody and wondering why they were acting all awkward and after the fact realize that I had leaked through my breast pads and had two wet circles on my chest.

I'm not embarrassed to feed my daughter at all.. but the other day was an BF adventure

The house I am living in is a brand new build and is still being worked on. The construction workers are currently working on the landscaping behind my my house. Where I BF there is a BIG glass door.. i mean HUGE view in and out. I just finished BF and I was going to lay Tali down.. I didnt' tuck myself back in at all.. only to find a staff meeting going on in front of said window with me still all flopped out. There were a lot of red faces... and I couldn't do a think about it until I had Tali safely put down... the workers still won't look at me. (I'll have to remember to close the blinds in the future)

I had a hard time bf in public for a little while because the main place we would be was in a sports bar. I used to pump in the bathroom and feed my son until I realized no one really cared. The hardest part was that my son learned how to play peek a boo so the receiving blanket cover up didn't work for long. I started using a poncho and that worked great!

I did get dirty looks from other women with their families when they would have to explain to their kids what I was doing. But I loved it at WIC they gave me a "license to BF" Just a business card with the law on it and that gave me the confidence to BF in public.

I wasn't exactly caught BFing in this story, but it pertains to lactation and was quite embarrassing.

My first baby spent his first month in the Children's Hospital. I faithfully pumped so we'd be able to nurse eventually. When he moved out of intensive care, I was able to spend the night with him in his room and was there when doctors made their rounds first thing in the morning.

One morning, I was awoken by a the group of doctors coming in to talk about how my son was doing. Although I slept with breast pads, they had apparently slipped during the night and it wasn't till after everybody left that I looked down and discovered I had two big wet circles on my front.

Sunday church service just ended and I decided to go in to the closest classroom to nurse. The sound/equipment operator opened the classroom door and there I was, all flopped out! This guy is only 21-24 years old. He was wondering why the door was shut-maybe next time I will lock it. It only bothered me because I could tell it bothered him. I spoke with him later and he said he was fine.

lol my father in law has had a few good comments too
"way to go boy, you will never get free access to the boobys like now!"
"that guy sure loves boobs!"
"nothin like a little nip to perk you up"

he is totally supportive too, i think he just finds it so normal that it is not weird to joke about it!

I might add, that he is completely supportive of breast feeding, and not actually a chauvinist, just inappropriate and lame... lol

"You're hanging out I see!" (To my exposed nipple as I went to get the baby latched...he literally just walked in the room)

"It's awfully nipply out"

"Don't everyone stand at once!" (To my errect nipples...)

"I see you've risen to the occasion" (again, to errect nipples)

So I see you've turned into a human cow...(at my pumping, double electric pump for the win!)

I haven't been embarassed at breastfeeding, but at the comments my father in law makes while I'm breast feeding...he's the king of horrible jokes...

and i have never been embarressed to breastfeed Eric anywhere, I am hesitent if I know i will be somewhat exposed. I am 21 and most of my shirts are not so loose and i dont us a blanket or cover. So i find a place where at least one side of me will be blocked. But ive nursed him in my church, a lutheran church, target, walmart, bench at the museum, beach, park, zoo picnic table, drs office, tons of restaurants, everyones houses :)
no shame, its what boobs are sposed to do right?

Eric was 5 days od and we ewnt back to the hospital to have his bilirubin leveels checked and i was nursing him with a blanket over my shoulder and the phlabotomist turned out to be an old friend and he casually lifted the blanket assuming Eric was sleeping. WHOOPSY!! well he was shocked but he didnt say anything so we ignored the fact. ironically i thought a few days later that i used to have a crush on him but i barely flinched when he saw my breast! I safely say i love only my husband!
