breastfed kids are touchy feely with the breast, not sure why she wanted to feed him again, perhaps she wanted to feel closer to him.I dont get it.

In general I don't have an issue with a 7 year old nursing but I do find it a bit odd that he had assumingly been weaned for some time and then came back to the breast. I do think that article is horribly slanted to one side and it's leaving out a large part of the story.

It is hard to say as there are cultural differences, slanted news reporting...it is not my place to judge...if it is truly a nursing mom and child then there is no set age to stop...the fact that they haven't been together for a period of time makes it questionable...what were her motives, I have no idea...

Not being told the whole story obviously, but it sounds like she had weaned him (at what age?) and was asking him to 'suckle' rather than feed as she wouldn't have any milk anyway???

Maybe the custody battle had affected her emotionally and she wanted that bond with him again?

But thinking of an already weaned seven year old boy, mum's boobies aren't going to be of interest to him, I'm sure the older girls at school are a different story however.

I am a little disturbed I'll happily admit. If she had been continually breastfeeding for 7 years I would be thinking, not for me-and like it or not people are going to think you are weird- so are you carrying on for selfish reasons? Your son is going to get teased about it, at some point enough is enough.

I wonder what the whole story is? The thing is, its culturally ordinary in some places to breastfeed a 7 year old, although it is not something I can imagine for myself. Many mums enjoy the way a breastfeed helps them reconnect with their baby after time apart eg: after work......but I think its one thing to breastfeed your child for an extended time, its quite another to try and re-introduce breastfeeding to a 7 year old. We don't know why this child doesn't live with mum, and whether weaning was her decision in the first place, but to me it feels like its over, let it be.
