My daughter turned 15 months old on Feb. 5 and ever since she stoped eating babyfood at 10 months it seems like she has just gotten less and less interested in real food.. At first she ate a good 3 meals a day, but now she is down to eating MAYBE a whole 2 meals a day.. IF THAT. Sometimes she will only eat one meal.. and not even eat the whole meal.. I feel like she is starving herself.. but she nurses a lot during the day and throughout the night. and she isnt extremely skinny.. and she seems to be very healthy I'm just scared that I'm doing something wrong, but I dont want to force her to eat, because then she will hate eating that much more. I just don't know what to do!! Somebody tell me that their kid did the same thing.. Its really starting to worry me, Thanks!

GOing through exactly the same thing... my 11 month old refuses all food for the past few days and just nurses! very frustrating! I must admit i tried force feeding him ,but he refused!!! seeing his doc tomorrow so i will check if he's lodt weight. ^But i also think he's got a new tooth coming out ...that might explain it... normal for us moms to worry :) 'Bonne courage'

Wow.. yeah that sounds exactly like my little girl, the only thing she eats a lot of is her snacks. but they are the gerber graduates snacks, so they are "healthy' i guess.. and she LOVES cheese. and she eats bananas.. but thanks a lot all this info really helps.. I will have to try doing the smoothie thing!! Thanks so much! :)

If she is gaining weight well and is healthy I would not worry too much about nutrition.  I would keep offering food.  She'll get back on track.  I can sympathize with your situation.  My daughter is 11 months and barely eats any food.  I work during the day and she nurses every 2 hours all night long to make up for it.  I definately agree you should not try and force her to eat.  I find the thing my daughter will most likely eat is whatever I am eating.  I sit her in my lap and offer her bites of my food.  Try different textures.  My daughter hates pureed foods and has since she was 6 months.  Keep at it, it will get better.

She might be getting some new teeth in. It hurts to eat food off of a spoon while teething, but nursing does not hurt. They also go through spurts. As long as she's gaining weight and is not overly fussy... I wouldn't worry about it. Babies do their own thing and we tend to overanalyze it. Hang in there! She'll set up a new routine. :)

My son is almost 26 mo. and still nurses. He eats like crazy too. When we first introduced solids (cereal and purees) around 7 mo or so he did really well... we did avocado's too, sweet potatoes, and banana's. At 9 mo we were given the OK by the Pedi to also add yogurt. Well I would say around 12 mo or so he became pickier and pickier and stopped eating his cereal and purees. He would mainly only eat his snacks... crackers, puffs, freeze dried fruit things... etc... From what my Pedi told me this is very normal for toddlers. We just kept offering and letting him decide and continue to nurse like crazy so he was getting his nutritional needs met.

We also were doing morning smoothies with all kinds of good stuff in it, we still do this... we do Kefir (probiotic yogurt essentially), Ensure, juice, flax oil, protein additive (we do carnation and just a little), Green Lightning powder (concentrated fruit and veggies), a Flax powder as well, liquid minerals, liquid child vitamin about a teaspoon of each in a blender full of smoothie, cinnamon, nutmeg, molasses, and a little honey. Then we add a couple kinds of frozen fruit... such as blueberries that we bought fresh, cleaned and froze. Then strawberries and always a banana or two. Blend it all together and that's breakfast for both my son and I. So between the nursing and smoothie I felt ok about him only snacking.

Well finally by about 18 mo. he totally got into eating table foods. He now eats Gerber toddler meals for dinner often, or Amy's organic kid meals or whatever we are eating, LOTS of fresh fruit, he LOVES his fruit, his cracker snacks (earth's best) with cheese, all that kind of stuff no problem. He nurses some still too as we're doing child-led weaning.

In my opinion this sounds totally normal and you are doing the best thing for your picky eater... giving her the best source of nutrition available, you!!! Keep that up until she finally decides it time to eat... again keep offering and she'll eventually get back into it.
