You know how they say don't introduce this or that before a certain age to prevent nipple confusion. My daughter is the opposite. She knows what the nipple is and won't take anything else. She won't take pacifiers or bottles. I'm not giving her formula just breast milk. But she just won't take the bottle. Did anyone else go through this? if so what did you do? any other suggestions would be appreciated as well. Thank you!

My daughter never took a bottle. I tried a bazillion different bottles and nipples and nothing worked, so between 6-7 months I just gave up. Finally at about 10 months old I got her to take a straw cup and I was able to pump into it.

With my current baby (6 months) I picked ONE bottle (Dr. Brown) and offered it a few times a week from about the time he was 7 weeks old. He too was resistent at first, but now takes a bottle pretty easily once a day (or more often if I need to be away).

You might also try warming your breast-milk a little warmer than you might think. My son will still refuse it sometimes (even if I've just pumped it) if he doesn't think it's warm enough.

It is very common. My daughter would never take a bottle even from my sister who watched while I was at school. Thankfully I was only gone for 2.5 hours. I ended up introducing a cup early at 4.5 months!

My son is 5 months and he will only take a bottle as a last resort. He will not take it if I am close by.

Neither would/will take a pacifier either.

If you need to return to work than just keep trying- well not you - daddy or another care giver :)

I think it's pretty common for a baby to refuse a bottle.. at least at first. How old is your baby?

Are you the one offering the bottle? Many babies are willing to take a bottle from someone other than Mom. You may need to leave the room, or even the house. They know if you're there.. that you're "holding out" on them.

I personally was not successful at getting my younger daughter to ever take a bottle. But as I am a SAHM, I didn't push the issue with her either. I just ended up not leaving her for more than 2 hours until she was old enough to drink from a cup and eat solid food.
