just because he is almost a year doesn't mean you HAVE to wean. personally, i am going to do child-led weaning because it seems like it will be less stressful than having to explain to my son why he can't have boob and hearing him cry. seems like less of a headache.

The best time to wean is when you are both ready. If you want to wean before he does then just take it slowly. :)

our son weaned himself a little after he turned one. it is a bonding time you should enjoy. so really, don't stress it, enjoy it.

Child-led Weaning

Child-led weaning occurs when a child no longer has a need to nurse - nutritionally or emotionally. A baby who self-weans is usually well over a year old, is getting most of his nutrition from solids, is drinking well from a cup, and cuts down on nursing gradually. If children are truly allowed to self-wean in their own time, most will do so somewhere between the 2nd and 4th year. Obviously, some will wean before this time and some will wean after this time, too.

My DS is going to be 14 months old very soon and I'm still breastfeeding him quite a bit. He eats lots of regular food and drinks juice and a little bit of cows milk, but I plan to nurse him for as long as he wants. There is no reason you HAVE to wean just because your baby is a year old.

I personally think the best time to wean is up to the baby. But that's not always what mom wants. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. My son just turned one and he still nurses 3 to 5 times a day.

You can breastfeed him as long as you are comfortable!

Don't let anyone tell you when to stop as it is completely up to you depending on how you feel about it! :) Good for you for making it to a year
