My breastfeed son John has cramps before his bowel movements since a new born. He will pull his little legs up to his chest and scream for a second, and this repeats for up to 10 minutes (seems like ten but likely only five or under). After cramps pass he calms down and within 5 minutes will pass the stool(which is liquid not solid). My doctor said this is normal, but no mother I have talked to has experienced this, so to me this is not normal. Any input or suggestion, I do give him "Ovol" as suggested put does not always work. The doctor said this will stop after three months, but he is almost four months.

My daughter did the same exact thing, but grew out of it on her own.

My daughter kind of does the same - it prompted me to look into Elimination Communication and it has really helped, when I see her getting fussy and squirmy I hold her over the toilet ( I sit on it backwards, and hold her by the legs) and she goes in the potty, the way I hold her seems to help her get her BM out and it takes less time, she is less gassy and less fussy, babies by nature don't like going BM on themselves, maybe his instinct for that is just stronger? give it a try it can' hurt and saves diapers :)

Cut the dairy out of YOUR diet. I had the same thing happen and once I cut out the dairy there was absolutely no more pain. I also got MUCH healthier off dairy. Try it for a week or so and see if it helps. If not then resume dairy.

Have you thought about putting him on a daily probiotic?? I think that it is something that your son will really benifit from! Ovol drops just mask the problem while the probiotics are a solution to it. There is a liquid probiotic that I swear by called Biogaia, you can get it at a pharmacy. (you need to ask the pharmacist for it as its kept in the fridge) You give 5 drops a day until the bottle is empty, which is about a month. You should start to notice a change after about a week. You can continue to give to your baby as long as you want or if after the one bottle he is fine then you can just give it to him again when you notice he is having issues again. I hope this helps!
