Need Help Fast Please!! Must Have Surgery and am Nursing!

I have to have a surgery and I am still nursing my daughter who just turned 1. She is very much attached to me and this is will only be an outpatient procedure with no hospital stay. My question is, have any of you other nursing moms had surgery while nursing, or known someone who has? I need to know the fastest way to get the anesthesia out of my system so that she is able to nurse again. She will take breastmilk and water from a sippy, so I am not worried about her getting the fluids that she needs. It is just if I am around she does not want it any other way except for from me. Any suggestions will help. I will be going under general anesthesia and the doctors told me she can nurse safely after 24 hours have passed. Thank you in advance for your help!

I wish someone had told me that. It would've saved me some dirty looks (from my baby) and painful breasts.

I asked my Lactation Consultant, who is an IBCLC, this exact question. My daughter is 11 months old. She told me the same thing that Sara said. Once you wake up, you're safe to nurse.

I had laproscopic surgery back in June and had to do a pump and dump for my then 3 month old. Everything will be fine. My daughter was the same way at 3 months (at 7 months though we now have bottle time at home because she gets distracted) and gave me her daddy's glare when I had to give her a bottle. You and your daughter should be fine, I just hope she doesn't have the glare my daughter does.

Everything that I've researched says that once you're awake and able to hold her then you're safe to nurse. You wake up because the anesthesia is leaving your system.
