I am trying to introduce bottle (for the 3 time) to my baby girl. She is 6 mo. old. She used to take bottle at birth (supplement breastfeeding). She developed severe gas problem, so around 1.5 mo. we stopped it. Then I tried again around 3 mo. Of age with Avent bottle for couple of weeks...no luck she started chewing the nipple with her jaws...Then I tried again for 2-3 weeks around 5 mo. age...she kept on chewing the nipple while keeping it in her mouth. I changed the bottle from Avent to Adiri...no luck.

I am giving her solid now and along with that also giving water/diluted juice in controlled sippy cup nipple...she takes may be 1-1.5 oz. at best. She does not like milk in that sippy cup, she spits out. Also, when it comes to formula or breast milk in bottle....she takes the nipple (both Avent and Adiri) and then starts chewing it with her jaw....

Can anyone help?

1. What formula brand helps best for transition...I do have stored breast milk that I can start with but I need to switch to formula after that...

2. What time or feeding period (night, morning) is most successful for transition? May be in sleep?

3. What bottle and nipple would you recommend...I am open to anything as long as it works? She does have a bit of gas problem.

Thanks in advance to all of you..

Hi,
Well it will all depend on the baby...there is no right or wrong answer here! u have to try as many nipples or as many times of the day and eventually she will get used to one of them...hope it goes well...

In our community we refrain from suggesting or encouraging formula- so I can't help you with that.

At six months she doesn't need formula. As long as you are nursing well when together and during the night when she's away from you she can have solids and water in a cup, or solids and breastmilk in a cup. She can have finger foods as well.

Bottles are unecessary at this point. Give her an open cup to practice with, with a bit of water in it. Expect some initial mess but she'll catch on quick if you go about it with a relaxed attitude.
