My nutritionist told me that sometimes while using a nipple sheild, you can lower your milk supply and not know its happening. She said I need to wean my son off of it and just use my nipple, but ive been trying and I need some help. Does anyone have any techniques for losing the nipple shield?

I had to use a nipple shield with my daughter because she was a preemie. I was determined to get her off of it ASAP though. I basically just kept trying every day to get her to latch to me. I would manually draw my nipple out to help her to latch. When she opened her mouth, I'd shove my nipple in, pointing it toward the roof of her mouth. It didn't take long.. maybe a week and I threw out the shields!

Get yourself nice and comfy....put the nipple shield on and let him nurse. When he is relaxed and has been nursing for a few minutes gently remove the nipple shield, rub some of your milk directly on your nipple and see if he will latch. I used a nipple shield for about 2 months. One day I just told myself we were going to figure it out and this is how we did it. Just keep trying it will happen.
