When you get your period back depends on your body and how you breastfeed your baby. Some mothers get theirs back within a few weeks post partum, others not for two years after. I personally didn't get mine back with my current nursling until she was 20 months old.

breastfeeding is DEFINITELY NOT a means of contraceptive!!!!!! After I had my first child I was told that I couldn't get pregnant while breastfeeding!!!! Not that I regret having my second child, but, I got pregnant while breastfeeding when my first child was only 6 months old!!!!!! BREASTFEEDING WILL NOT KEEP YOU FROM GETTING PREGNANT!!!

I know it's a bit weird wanting them back ! but u do start 2 wonder if all is well!!! but don't worry it just seems that it can differ so much with every baby, i have only just got mine back & my daughter is 15 months old i am still exclusively breastfeeding her but it was starting 2 freak me out!!! as she is my 3rd & igot mine back when my 1st child was 10months & then with my 2nd she was 11months & i fed all of them so it just happens when your body is ready i guess! there is no text book! u will be ok!!!

I never took any birth control while I was nursing my son. I went all the way down to once a day feeding when he was 15 months old before I had a period. Some people are just more sensitve to the prolactin hormone than others are.

My DD is 15 months old. I am still nursing her 1-2 times per day and take a mini-pill for birth control. Haven't had a period yet. With my first, under the same conditions, I got my period back around 1 year old and then then next one was 2-3 months later.

I haven't had a period since jan 2007!. Thats when i got pregnant with my 1st child. i then nursed til she was 16 months old. i got pregnant again when she was about 13 months old and am still nursing my now 13 month old. just because you dont have a period doesnt mean you cant get pregnant though! i am living proof! :)

I still haven't gotten mine back yet. My DD is 6 months old. She's been sleeping through the night since she was 3 weeks, so she wasn't feeding at night. She also started solids at 4 1/2 month, but that still doesn't seem to make it come back. I really don't miss it though. I'm not looking foward to it coming back though.

yup. some woman are just lucky like that. lol. with my first son i breastfed him until he was 21 months and didn't get my period until I weaned him. With my seond child I didn't get my period until I stopped breastfeeding completely. With my third, we'll see what happens. I am still breastfeeding. Also, I never got pregnant until I stopped breastfeeding and had my first period.

lucky you! i seem to be some sort of freak of nature because i had a period the entire time i breastfed and we're talking 13 and a 1/2 months exclusively but its completely normal for it not to have come back yet it is likely to come back once u start incorporating more solid foods into your baby's diet but it may not either some women don't have a period for 18 months or more even after weaning many months before it just varies for every woman

wow this is great to know - i had my boy 10wks ago and this is my 4th child - i only bled for 2wks and then it stopped - i am breastfeeding exclusively too and 2 nightfeeds, in fact nursing is easier and i seem to be producing a lot of milk - if not having period is normal and because of it AM SO HAPPY - funny thou neva happened with my last 3 kids - and i breastfed my last gal for 5months.... guess its different wit every child - and i was happy to see that a pregnancy test this morning came back negative.....now i know why - so thankful - thanx chickys :):)
Yep, I didn't get mine back until 16 months with my youngest, my other 3 I always got it back at 9 months. When I had my IUD checked after it had been in for a year, my doctor actually did a pregnancy test (copper IUD, not the hormone, which would actually contribute to not getting it, my dr said).
I flipped out for 4 days waiting for the results (over the weekend). I have 4 and I was not prepared for 5 kids. LOL

Well, I have three kids. With the older two, I didn't get anything for a year. I nursed them ALL the time. with this last little guy, three months after possibly sooner, I got mine. I was very sad let me tell you. What I think made the difference is that he didn't nurse at night since three weeks. So, as I don't like have a period, would prefer to nurse all night not to have one now.
I hope this helps..

My daughter is 11 mo. and I have gotten my period 3 times since she was 6 mo. It is very normal to not ovulate or get your period while breastfeeding. Some women do some don't. Enjoy it while it last! It only becomes an issue if your trying to get pregnant again.

my LO is 9 months and I got my period once since he was born. My dr. checked my iron levels and a few other things to make sure I was ok and seems just fine. I'm still exclusively breastfeeding but have dropped the night feeds only this past month. I figured that would make me get my period again soon.
