No period after breastfeeding, why?

I BF my daughter regularly for about 10 months. At that point I started to reduce the number of feedings and now (13 months and two weeks old) we are fully done BFing.
About a month and a half ago I had what I thought was the first period after breastfeeding, it was very painful, long (about 10 days) and spotty at the beginning but very heavy and with clots later on.
This month, I have not had a period, but I started having VERY light spotting about a week ago. No PMS symptoms yet either. My cycles used to be about 30 days long before the baby.

As of right now we are not using birth control since we would like to have another baby soon. Therefore, my initial thought was that I could be pregnant again. I have taken a number of home tests and are all negative. Also, I don't have any of the regular signs of pregnancy that I have experienced in my previous two pregnancies.

Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, how long did it take for your periods to become regular?

Thanks!!

Be patient. Your periods get messed up after pregnancy and breastfeeding. It can takes months for your period to get back to a somewhat regular cycle.

Just because you had certain symptoms with your previous pregnancies does not mean it will be the same the 3rd time round. It is different each time.

I would just hang in there.

With each of my kids, my period returned 2 months after I had completely weaned (1st at 10 months, 2nd at 15 months). However, when I weaned, I always switched to a birth control pill to regulate my cycle for a few months before TTC again.

I haven't had a period now in over 3 yrs, except for the post partum ones ( which only last 2weeks for me yay) I bf my first son a bit over a year and was expecting it to start not long after he weaned, 3 months later I had very light bleeding which I thought was it, but it only lasted 3 day and I had a lightbulb moment :) had to wait to test but yes was implantation bleeding and was preg again, my second is now 4 mths and I'm hoping it doesn't come anytime soon

I must admit I breastfed both my kids for longer than this, but my periods took ages to come back. My second child was well over a year old before I had my first period and then they were irregular. After my second I had several pregnancy scares because I didn't have a regular cycle so I didn't know what was going on. But eventually my periods returned to normal. After my first, I was pregnant four months after he stopped feeding so it doesn't take too long to go back to normal. Breastfeeding does mess up your cycle, but I must admit it was nice not having a period for so long.

Just give it a bit of time. Usually within 2-4 months the cycle will regulate again. I'm nursing my 13 month old still and haven't had a single period yet. We also hope to conceive soon but idk when I'll be fertile!

it can take several cycles to become 'regular' again. For me, i wasn't ever really regular, so it wasn't out of the ordinary.
