Nosy people, calories...

I am breastfeeding my 16 month old. I've been getting comments: "You are still breastfeeding?" "When are you going to quit that?" etc. (From family & friends) I barely ever nurse in public anymore due to her eating solids and drinking from a cup but when I do nurse in public I get odd looks! We do use a cover but she is getting so big. Anyway, I don't plan on quitting until she's ready. I'm letting her choose when she is done. What do you do to keep your head up while others look down on you?



On another note...I just joined my fitness pal thing and i'm trying to find out how many calories I burn on an avg day while nursing. She nurses about 5 and 6 times a day.

I am still nursing my 2-year old whenever and wherever. I don't notice many looks, but I don't really look, either.

As for how to respond, you can always try humorous, "Oh, we'll stop before he goes to college.". Or, "whenever we are ready.". I have found that just saying "this is working for us right now." is something they can't really argue with. How do they know if it is or isn't working? They can't comment to that. I also jus know that no matter what anyone else may say, the little one and I are the only ones whose opinion matters on that item :-)

My son was 16m when I had to emergency wean him and I had wished to continue until he wanted to stop, so good for you to keep going. Nothing is more natural than to BF and if you can and are willing to keep going do it.
As for calories, I didnt count BF as a calorie burner but knew it was helping :)

I never have anyone say anything (dd is 2). If there are bad looks, I don't notice them.

For myfitness pal, I didn't count breastfeeding calories burned.

Good for you!

My son nursed til 3.25 years. We mostly stopped feeding in public at 2... though I nursed in church til 2.5.

At the age of your daughter... he was nursing 6-15ish times in 24 hours! Before he had to quit he was only nursing at home and he'd nurse 1-5 times/day. :)

Most people didn't say a word. No strangers ever said anything to me, but a couple of friends did... oh well. My mom was great (though she doesn't live here) cuz she nursed me and my brother til 2-3 years old. ♥ Shortly after a year my dad asked me if I had any plans to wean. I said... no plans yet... and that was pretty much it. ;)
