Nursing Clothes

[deleted account] ( 10 moms have responded )

Any tips on what clothes work well for breastfeeding? I'm a new mom with a two-month old son, and it's been hard to find nursing shirts/tanks etc. Any advice?

I like motherwear.com for nursing tops. They have good sales a lot and I have been able to find good deals. They along with camisole tops help me nurse in public more discreetly without having to do anything.

Thanks for the tips! The belly band is a great idea...why didn't I think of that?! I have two in my drawer right now!

did you ever use a belly/bella band during pregnancy? I have been using mine under regular t-shirts so that I can nurse without exposing my love handles (which is more of a concern for me... lol)

I've got a few tops off craigslist too

I just wear 2 shirts all the time. Usually a tank or cami under a shirt or button up. That way I can always pull one down and one up and only expose enough boob to nurse from. Most of the time people can't even tell what I'm doing. I just look like I'm holding a sleeping baby. Another think that works really well for me is I bought several white fruit of the loom mens undershirts, cut vertical slits over my breasts and wear those under pretty much anything. It works perfectly.

Try practicing nursing in front of a mirror and you can see how different things you wear look to other people. It can give you more confidence because most of the time I think you'll find people can't see nearly as much as you think.

Because of how big my breasts are right now I found the nursing tops didn't work for me. I have a few good nursing bras and I just wear T shirts I can pull up. If you are not wanting to show your tummy you can use a belly band. Thats what I did cause my stretch marks are crazy!

I got a few good supportive nursing bras at Maidendform. I tend to just wear t-shirts that can be pulled up because the "nursing clothes" were so expensive.

Thanks so much! I will check those out. So far the only store I've found them in is Motherhood Maternity, and they're ridiculously expensive! I like both Old Navy and Gap, so that's fantastic. Now I wish Victoria's Secret would come out with nursing bras! But that doesn't seem to be the crowd they're marketing to :)

Gap and Old Navy just came out with nursing tops. I've purchased a four so far. They aren't too expensive and they look nice. I'm not sure if they have them in stores, I found them online.

I have found the nursing clothes "bulky". A good nursing bra is a must. I like the sports type by Bravado. Also, I found a great one at target. I also like the nursing tanks for the summer. Good luck in your search.
