I have heard that some babies dont like to nurse while their mom is on her period. Does it change the taste or something. My sister-in-law was nursing and after she started her period her milk began to dry up. With my first daughter i got my first period when she was 6 months old and she never seemed to mind, she nursed the same whether i was on my period or not...but with my son it's different...he's 5 months old and i just started my period for the first time since pre-pregnancy...i've noticed that the last few days he has only been nursing for a couple minutes at each feeding as opposed to his normal 15+ minute feedings, he just doesnt seem interested in nursing for more than a couple minutes. I couldnt figure out why then i remembered that i'm on my period and wondered if thats whats causing it. He's not fussy so i take it he's eating enough to not be hungry, but then he hasnt had a dirty diaper in two days. Has this happened to anyone...please help, i dont want to stop nursing!!!

Keep nursing on demand and you will be fine.

I got mine back after 3 months - and am still nursing at 17 months.
I think that sometimes my supply is lower for the first couple of days, but then I try to remember to drink more and it all sorts. Maybe try that?
A shorter nursing session during those few days almost seems like a bit of a break for Mom anyway.
And I wouldn't worry too much about the dirty diapers - again a bit of a break :) - it's the wet ones that count.

Don't fret about an end to nursing - both you and your baby are more determined than that I'm sure :)

Really, I nursed both my children for months after getting my period back. Never noticed a difference! I am thinking there would be more affect from your tension. Don't worry about it! How many males worry if you have your period? LOL. You will have more trouble trying to stop your son from nursing.
