Ok, this is kind of a gross question...

I've been breastfeeding for 4 1/2 months, and I've had to be put on stool softeners because since i've been breastfeeding, my #2's are really large and hard and painful. I was told it was because all the fiber and a lot of your fluids go to the baby. Just wondering if anyone else was having this embarassing, painful problem.

My daughter is 7mos old and I am seldom have those symptoms. My doctor told me at my first check-up after Haven was born it was because the scar tissue from her tearing me during birth is more tender while you breastfeed and will eventually go away, which it pretty much has. Nothing was wrong with me, the pain just came from the tenderness. He did prescribe a cream for me to use but when I read the label it said there was a chance of decreasing your milk supply so I opted to just deal with the pain. I eat a lot of fiber but it still occasionally hurts but nothing like it used to! Try the fiber but if it doesn't decrease I would go talk to your doctor. Good luck!

Yes! until I really maximized fluids and started eating Flax Bran Plus Raisin by Nature's Path for breakfast, has so much fiber it really works!

YES! My baby will be 5 months on Saturday. It is so painful going to the bathroom, I just want to cry! I talked with my doctor the other day when I got my Mirena put in and she said I need more fiber! And to drink more water! And that it will take a little while before my body is back to normal going to the bathroom! I look forward to when it doesn't hurt! Good Luck to you too!

Actually yes! And my baby is 4 months old. I have never experienced this before with my other bf children. Anyway, I had to make sure to take in enough fiber. I also had to reduce my iron supplements (don't do this if your iron is low-ask your dr first), but take my prenatals. I switched everything to whole grains (was doing about 50/50 before), sometimes eat Fiber One bars as a snack (but they have a lot of sugar), eat at least 5 veggie servings per day (even if it's drinking V-fusion) and I stopped drinking even the little bit of soda I was drinking before (soda can dehydrate). I also eat pulpy fruits as snacks. It has helped SO much! I realized that my milk supply increased when my stools got better. And lost some weight! LOL I hope this helps. Good luck!
