i have an 8 month old daughter and recently when feeding, it really hurts when she latches on and during the feeding as well. it was painful for a whole day, both sides last week. last saturday actually. i pumped and fed from a bottle most of the day...now it seems to be happening again. some friends who have babies have said maybe my period is coming back? there is no sign on my nipple of soreness or aggrivation, so i don't know why it would hurt. i havn't had problems before.

maybe try changing her position so she gets a different latch, she could very well have a tooth that just hasn't broken through the gum yet.   Now that I'm thinking about it, I started noticing occassional nipple tenderness about a month before my daughter cut her first tooth.  I could feel it on her bottom gum, it just hadn't broken through yet.  If you put her on and you experience pain, unlatch her and try again.  Different holds will put the pressure in a different area so that my make the pain stop.  If it doesn't, you may want to see your doc just to make sure that it isn't something else.

its is just the nipple and does last the whole time, but hurts the most when she latches on. i was wondering if it was because she was teething, but it's not all the time...and i watch her and it doesn't look like she is chomping down. she does not have any teeth yet though.

Are they only sensitive when she's feeding?  Does she have any teeth yet?  Does it hurt for the entire feed or just when she latches on?  Is it your whole breast or just the nipple?  If its the whole breast it could very well be your period coming back.  Do you have a fever or feel sick at all?
