Hi. I'm new in this community, thought I would just introduce myself :)

My name is Rebecca and I'm from Sweden. I have a 10 month old son, who I breastfeed as much as I can. I have been almost yelled at by my son's pediatrician because I didn't want to start with solid food when he was seven months, because he didn't gain weight very much (but the pediatrician always said he didn't look malnourished so I didn't quite see the problem -.-). Now he eats from my breast in the night once or twice. Almost panicked when he didn't one night, so I'm thinking about breastfeeding him before it's nappy-time.

I planned to breastfeed til' my son were at least 2-3 yrs, but now he seem to lost interest by himself, I can't say I don't blame the pediatrician for making me give my son solid food before I wanted to :(

How much and when do you breastfeed your babies?

My son will be 11 months next week, and he also feeds on demand. Usually he "snacks" a bunch, instead of feeding for a good amount of time. He cluster feeds at night when I get home from work, and he still wakes a lot in the middle of the night.

As far as your doctor goes -- food before one is just for fun, and breastmilk has more healthy calories than solids anyway. We started solids at six months, but you should wait until your son is completely ready -- not when he is at an aribtrary age.

How often do you nurse during the day? It's actually a good sign that he is not nursing as much at night -- you want him to eventually sleep through the night. It's very rare that a baby actually loses interest in nursing before the age of 1 -- the average age of self weaning is between 2.5 and 7 years of age. It's possible that he is on a nursing strike -- maybe because of teething?

Keep offering the breast whenever you can. :)

My daughter is 14.5 months old. She nurses.... erratically. Sometimes it's every 5-8 hours, and sometimes (like today) it's every 2! She nurses to sleep for every nap and bedtime, upon waking, when bored... :)

Did your son lose interest or is he rejecting the breast? Nursing strikes are common at that age.

Well my son is named Eric, he is now 21 months. When he was 10 months old he was breastfeeding about every three hours in the day, and twice or three times at night. So I'd guess around 8 times a day.

I became pregnant when Eric was almost 15 months and then he started breastfeeding more because I'm making less milk. Now he has been breastfeeding a lot, but only for a minute or so each time. I'd guess around 10 times a day, but he is sleeping well at night and only wakes once if any to breastfeed.

He eats a lot of solid foods, and drinks water as well but I know that my milk is filling in the gaps of nutrition right now because he just doesn't want to eat everything!

I plan on breastfeeding Eric as long as he wants, aiming at 3-4 years so I will be breastfeeding both him and my daughter once she is born this may!

Welcome to the community! I hope to see you around, and I hope you find some helpful info while here!
