Question about BF and periods

I got my first period when my baby was 9 months......but I haven't had another one and it's been about a month and a half. I keep taking pregnancy tests, but they all come out negative. I never had this problem before. I got pregnant with my second child before I had gotten my period back after my first child. And I just resumed normal periods about 11 months after my second child. Has anyone else had one period and then stopped having them again for a while?

Yes! I had that happen. When my periods came back they were very irregular in the beginning. It seemed everytime baby hit a growth spurt (and subsequently was permantantly attached) my periods stopped, then when they spent the next month or so sleeping from the strain of growing (thus weren't nursing as much) my period came back full force. It seemed to me to be something that hit about every 3 months.

My daughter is 13 months old and my period is very irregular. It started about 2-3 months ago and I have only had one full period and then spotting. On average women don't get their period back until 13-16 months post-partum.

My baby is 8 months old and I still have yet to get a period!!! I don't mind one bit!!! I probably wont get one till I decide to stop breastfeeding! Wont be for about another 8 months!!!

Yes, they are very irregular. I'm breastfeeding and had one at about 3 months and it's been a month and a half and haven't had another one.

Thanks, I guess I can just relax and stop buying pregnancy tests. My periods have always been perfectly regular so I was worried that something was wrong or that I was pregnant. I would love another baby soon....but not quite this soon.

My first I get periods, but they were really irregular. I have a background in biology and for many women periods will remain irregular as long as you continue BF because your hormones will still be off. That's one of the main reasons BF is not considered a reliable form of birth control (My 2nd baby is proof of that!), even the "rhythm or natural planning" way because that depends on cycle irregularity so until you stop BF and your cycles even out your periods could remain irregular. Make sure you are using other birth control if you don't want another baby yet.

Well, with my first my period came back when she was seven months old- but really didn't become regular until she was about 20 months old. Hormones just have to regulate. Takes time.
