My 7 1/2 month old son had the stomach flu and I had to transition back to just nursing, no solid food. He is better now, but now I have it. I am barely able to hold down water and I worry about how this will affect my son's breastfeeding since I am not getting any calories for the most part. I am forcing myself to nibble on crackers no my body needs calories to make the milk for my son. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can get calories into my diet while I am sick so that I can still produce milk to feed my son?

Stomach virus is usually 24 - 72 hrs, it shouldn't affect your milk supply if you continually nurse. Just drink lots of water and take vitamins.

Thank you ladies. I ended up spiking a fever and once that broke in the middle of the night I felt much better. I didn't have much of an appetite the next day but at least I could eat without getting sick again.

Keep nursing him, if he is eating baby food inbetween nursing, he will be fine, and so will he. In 24 hours, you should be fine and your breasts should be fine too. It will take a little from your body to nurse him, but do what you can. Drink water when you can, eat crackers when you can. Usually the stomach flu only lasts anywhere from 6 to 24 hours. Keep nursing him.

The most important thing at this point is to stay hydrated. Drink whatever will stay down. Water, ginger ale, juice, etc. Chicken broth would be good too if you can keep that down. A few days with no food while you're sick will be OK... as long as you stay hydrated.
