In the past I have pumped and given my son breastmilk in a bottle. Since I am a stay at home mom it isn't very often I need to do this in fact he hasn't had a bottle in almost three months... I have read a lot of articles that say you can introduce a sippy cup as early as four months. I was wondering now that he is also eating solids would it be strange to put breastmilk in a sippy for him next time and just never go back to bottles? Has anyone else done this?

At about 6 mo, I no longer needed to give my first baby a bottle because I was home all the time. After a few months of infrequent bottles from his Dad, he stopped taking them alltogether so we went straight to a sippy with breast milk in it. It's not strange at all to give him his milk in a sippy cup- why push a bottle just to transition to cup/sippy later?

Now, nursing baby #3, she's 7 mo and has refused a bottle since she wa 2 mo. Isn't too fond of a sippy cup either. (sigh) Good thing I wanted to nurse her past a year. :-)

My daughter would never take a bottle, but she was able to drink from a sippy cup at maybe 5 or 6 months -- I don't remember exactly (she's in Grade 2 now, so it's been a while!). She didn't want the sippy cup to have mommy milk in it, though -- just water.

It's certainly worth a try.

We also skipped the bottle. My DD would never take it. I also use the sippy cup and the cups with the straw. I like the straw better and so does my DD. The only problem I'm having is that my DD will NOT drink any milk but Breastmilk and will ONLY take it from my Breast, not in any type of cup/bottle.

My boy is transitioning to a sippy cup. He has a few cups, I keep one FULL of watered down apple juice near him when he is playing. I keep it FULL, because if it's not, when he gets it to his mouth, it doesnt tip up enough for him to get a taste of the juice.

On his own he will pick it up and fiddle with it... and most of the time it makes it to his mouth. Sometimes, he smacks the dog with it... but sometimes it gets to it's destination. I think if you make a huge deal out of it, the baby will think he's doing something wonderful. So when he does take interest in it, I coo at him, "what a big boy" "drinking from the big boy cup" "look at you, holding that cup just like Daddy does"

Sure. My son hated bottles - they are just so rubbery and yuck. He would make terrible faces if I tried to give him one, but he likes drinking out of a cup.

We tried the bottle, and my son is seven months and he hates it. He'll wait four hours for me to get home from school before he'll eat. I've heard of a lot of women who just skip the whole bottle thing, no reason you have to use it. If he'll take a sippy then go for it. I have my bottles just to pump into, though I haven't pumped in a while. I've got to start building my stash again because its all old now and I need fresh milk! I say go forth with the sippy. He may even be more likely to take breastmilk when it is in a cup, which is what I'm hoping my son does. :)

We went right to bottles with the rubbery, flexible straws. Ours is Munchkin brand although there are other brands out there. We skipped the baby bottle and the sippy cup because we would have to wean him off of those things. The bottle with the straw is something that he can use for a long time. The straw has a much more natural sucking than sippy cups or baby bottles. I had read an article by a speech therapist who had warned against long term use of the sippy cup, because it affects oral motor development and speech. The bottles with straws are definitely the way to go - my son can get a drink whenever he wants because they don't spill.
