After a year old. Controled crying or cry it out, are not needed for a child to sleep through the night.

We started controlled crying around 4 months- he started sleeping at least 8 hour stretches really quickly. It didn't take long at all- he now sleeps at least 10 hours every night straight through at 16 months.

I don't think there's any age you can expect that as every baby is different. Some sleep through from birth, some don't sleep through til age 2. You don't *have* to do controlled crying. All babies will eventually sleep through when they are developmentally ready to, without you having to do anything.

Every baby is different. Some babies will sleep through the night really early, some will continue to wake up at night until their 2.

My baby started sleeping through the night at about 5-6 weeks old (he's just over 8 weeks now). We use the Babywise method, so I do a last feeding at 10pm and then let him wake up when he needs to. One night, he just slept through until 7am. Then he did it the following night and then again. Enough that it's become a pattern and we haven't done a middle of the night feeding since.
With our oldest son (age 2.5 years), we started doing the cry it out method somewhere around 4-6 months. We didn't have to do it much, but he is a really good sleeper now.
