I exclusively breast feed my 12 week old daughter. She has begun sleeping in two 5 hour shifts at night - waking to feed each time. I feel though that she will be sleeping through the night really soon. When your baby started sleeping through the night did you wake up to pump so that you were not engorged or did you wait it out and feed baby in the morning? Thanks!

My daughter is 7 months old now, and started sleeping through the night a few weeks ago. I have had many mornings, or times when I wake up in the middle of the night soaked. What I started doing was before I went to sleep I would pump some to make sure I am good and empty before I went to sleep, this helps a lot. Then there have been times when I would still wake up and be leaking and if I could get myself up I would pump some so I could sleep comfortably. I also pump some in the morning after I feed her if I am still full. It helps because I am feeding her cereal and need some milk to mix with it.

I would get up and pump. This way a great way to start my back to work supply of milk. I was used to be up at that particular time anyway so I just pumped for 10-15 minutes and now have a great supply of frozen milk for when I go back to work in a couple of weeks!

I started out waking up and pumping, and now she is 6 months old and we both sleep all the way through the night! If you wake up and pump it will be nice to have one more bottle stored away in the freezer and you won't be uncomfortable all night!

At first I would feed my daughter as soon as she woke up, then pump about 30 mins after. As my body adjusted to her sleeping through the night, I no longer woke up engorged and didn't need to pump. Now I don't pump at all, and breastfeed her 4-5 times/day. Your body adjusts, it takes some time, but you and your baby will be on the same page very soon.

My 12 week old has been sleeping 9-11 hours a night since 9 weeks. I get up to pump if I am too uncomfortable to sleep, or if I start leaking because it has been so long. That means most nights I get up to pump, but only when I can't wait any longer.

I just started having this same issue. If I can get her to eat, I do. But I've started getting up to pump. She use to eat in her sleep which was nice since I work, but now she's to passed out to notice me.

Your body will adjust..pump if you're hurting and it wakes you up. Otherwise, let your body adjust so you can enjoy sleeping through the night too! In the morning when your really full, I would sometimes feed my baby, and then pump if I still felt full. Good way to stock up the freezer!
