I know this isn't really a bf question. My baby is 6 months old & is bf, I have an awful gynae history & lucky me got my period back when he was only 4.5weeks old. I tried the mini pill but it wasn't working for me so went down the Mirena line. I had it put in just over two weeks ago & have had spotting/bleeding since. How long can I expect this to go on? What are other people's experiences with the Mirena?

After my 6 wks check up my Mirena was inserted. I kept it for 3 1/2yrs. It was ideal for me no cramps, little to no periods, no pills. It was great up until I had reoccurring yeast infections then I decided it would be best to have it removed.

thanks ladies, just wanted to really know what i was up for! the literature that comes with it says my periods should become lighter & shorter or perhaps even stop so i'm really hoping for the latter!!

Nicole I was told after the initial bleeding that many women don't bleed at all but some do there's no guarantee that you won't have a period, but if you do it'll probably be a lot lighter.

My spotting lasted around 3 weeks but I only have spotting now and that's every once in a while. I have had my iud for almost 2 years and it's been great.

Nicole - From my experience and from what others have said here and on other posts about mirena I'd say you can expect to have bleeding shortly after it's put in anywhere from 1 week to 8 weeks worth of bleeding/spotting. After that you may or you may not have much bleeding/spotting. It seems to go both ways.

I want to get mirena as well. I'm 16 weeks w my 3rd. I have terrible aweful pregnancies and I do NOT want any more children. I have heard some awesome stories but some horror as well. I have some time to think about, but my main question is am I going to get a period w Merena? I would like to avoid my period! As I'm sure we all do! Lol!

I had the mirena fitted when my daughter was 9 weeks old, I hadn't had a period. I spotted on and off for 2 months after it was fitted, it seemed like forever but since I finished bleeding I haven't bled again (yet), my daughter is 7.5 months now.

I had mirena put in when my baby was 4 months old. I hadn't had a period yet, but as soon as I got it I started bleeding, and it continued for 2 months. Since then I've had irregular spotting on and off. My baby is now 14 months old so I've had it for 10 months. The spotting is getting lighter and less frequent now. I haven't noticed any other side effects.

I stopped bleeding spitting about 6 weeks after I had it put in. My daughter is 22 months and I've only had it randomly about 4 times in the past year and a half. This is the second time I've used it and I love it.
