It's normal.
When you're pregnant you don't shed as much hair as you usually do, so after you have your baby you lose much more hair than usual to make up for it.
It's hormones, not breastfeeding.

yep, I ended up cutting my long hair short, as it was coming out in handfuls, and was so knotty all the time from the loose hair

It's happening to me too. I keep joking with my boyfriend asking him if he's gonna buy me a nice wig when I go bald...lol

Keep taking your pre-natal vitamins while you are nursing. It will help with all that your body is putting out! Your hair should stop falling out in about 1 to 2 months. While you are pregnant you stop shedding as much hair as you normally would. This is just your body reacting to the hair that it held onto. Don't worry, you won't go bald, although it may feel like it. I lost a ton of hair after my second child was born, handfuls everyday.

Yeah, I run my hands through my hair and some always comes out. Had this happen when I was pregnant too. I'm kind of wondering when it'll stop.

That is normal it happened to me with my second daughter. It happened more while I was breastfeeding then when I was pregnant.

Oh, it is so normal. I started losing hair 3 or 4 months after I gave birth, and it fell out with a vengence! I honestly thought I would go bald. Anyway, I didn't. I was told by my midwife that if you breastfeed that you will lose more hair and for a longer period. Also, she said that during pregnancy your hair grows faster, and you lose less then normal. So what is actually falling out is the "extra" hair that you gained. You should be left with your pre-pregnancy amount when it is all over.

It's normal. It happens to formula-feeding moms too.. it's not breastfeeding's fault. ;)

Yep, totally normal. I think i lost more hair from breastfeeding than from being pregnant.
You might want to continue taking prenatal vitamins.
