Sour milk?

I have pumped along with breastfed since my son came home. He is now 6 weeks and I store the milk in the fridge, generally in the back. I haven't had to freeze any because he goes through so much. My husband and I heated up some milk, and to my husband it smelled sour, to me it smelled soapy. We had assumed it had gone bad. Why is this? Do I know it's gone bad only by smell? And if my son has gotten bad milk, how will this effect him?
