Sudden Change in Sleep pattern??

I have been exclusively breastfeeding since my son was 2 months old. At 10 weeks, he started sleeping 7-9 hours through the night. Now at 4 months, he has started waking every 3-4 hours at night to nurse... I have tried giving him diluted rice cereal and he still wakes at night. I am worried he isn't getting enough to eat...Has anyone had a similiar experience and have any advice?

I don't really have any advice, but wanted to let you know that I have had a similar experience! My breastfed son used to sleep through the night until he was about 4 months old. Now he is 5 months old and is still waking once at around 3am for a night feed. It might be hard to have to get up at that hour of the morning to feed him, but you quickly get used to it! And don't worry their sleeping patterns do change quite frequently so you might have uninterupted nights of sleep again before you know it!

That's totally normal, and giving him rice cereal won't make a difference. He's going through a growth spurt and so is needing to intake more breastmilk. It's a myth that by starting solids, babies will sleep through the night. When he wakes up at night, nurse him all he wants, as there is nothing wrong with your milk supply, like i've already said he's probably going through a growth spurt. Last night my 12mos old daughter (who's never slept through the night) woke up 7 times to nurse, because she's going through a growth spurt.

Perfectly normal and it has nothing to do with your milk. My daughter started this when she started rolling over. Any developmental milestone, growth spurts, teething, getting sick, etc. can cause changes in sleeping patterns. Your baby's sleeping pattern will probably change many times before his first birthday. My experience with my daughter is she went from waking every 1-2 hours at night (birth-8 weeks) to sleeping through the night (8 weeks-4 months) to waking 3 times a night (4 months to 7 months) and is now waking 1-2 times at 8 months.



P.S. It is a myth that starting solids early will help babies sleep through the night (which I think you already noticed).
