My 9 week old daughter used to have 1-3 bms per day that were the consistency of water. For 5 days now she has only gone every other day and her bm is a very thick milkshake consistency. I called the Dr. and the nurse told me to try an ounce of sugur water or watered down prune juice. Im skeptical about both. Advise?

'Very thick milkshake consistency' does not qualify as 'hard.' It is normal. Do not give her sugar water or any sort of juice. No other substance is as good a laxative as your own milk. Unfortunately, in this case, the nurse doesn't know what she's talking about.

Sometime after six weeks many breastfed babies will switch from several small bowel movements per day to a larger one every few days.
