suggestions to increase amount of breast milk produced

[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

My baby is 2 months old and I take Fenugreek and must drink at least four cups of Mother's Milk tea a day in order to produce just enough milk for him. He doesn't over eat and drinks either 3 or 4 oz at each feeding which is about every 2.5 - 4 hours. I try and drink plenty of water during the day and eat right.

I will be heading back to work soon and would like some suggestions on anything I can do to increase my milk production. I would love to have enough to freeze at some point.

Ditto Sara. If all you're doing is pumping, you're not going to stimulate your supply as well as your baby can. Nurse, nurse, nurse. Save the pumping for work. If you want to have some freezer stash, nurse throughout the day and pump one or two times--freeze this extra.

Breastfeed exclusively because it's supposed to be a feed-back system. The more milk is demanded of your breasts, the more they should produce. You can also stimulate a greater "need" for breast milk by using a breast pump after each feeding. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids. I've boosted my supply through these remedies. I have also used healthy nursing tea that tastes good and boosts supply as well.

Their are foods you can include in your diet that are thought to increase milk: brown rice, oatmeal are just a couple. I've heard of mom's pumping every hour for a day or two to boost their milk. La Leche League International has a really great forum on increasing your milk. Hope this helps! Good Luck :)

I've heard wonders about Yogi's nursing tea...my friends said they would only drink one cup or two per week and produce enough... I drink the mother to be and love it. Don't know how well the nursing one works as I just discovered it and haven't gotten that far yet. worth a try if you're already trying one tea, right?
