Supplimenting with goats milk.

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tried to give their bf baby goats milk as a suppliment, and if so how it went for them. My child is almost 5 months, on solids and I'm considering trying it as he will not take formula.

i understand.

would it be possible to rent a double electric, try and find time to pump because the best way to get baby used to formula would be mixing the breastmilk with formula to mask the taste a bit. i exclusively pump and when my son was under 6 months old, there were times when couldn't keep up with him and had to give him some formula each day. he absolutely hated the formula and refused it. when he was drinking 6 oz bottles, i would mix 2 oz formula as usual, and add 4 oz breastmilk to hide the flavor of the formula. you could do that, then increase the formula/BM ratio until he is used to the taste of straight formula.

are you wanting to wean completely when you go back to work, or did you still want to nurse when you are together and have him drink formula while you are at work?

my hand pump never works for me either. perhaps look into manual expression? if heard that once you master the technique, it can actually be a lot faster than an electric pump

Thanks for the reply Jennifer.
I'd like to get my baby on formula because I'd appreciate a break occasionally, and also becasue I'd like to go back to work. I'm very lucky becasue I live in Canda and we get one year paid leave but how much you get depends on how much you make etc. I've tried to pump but my hand pump isn't effective for me, and when I did rent an electric pump I had no time to use it . My other little guy will be 2 at the end of the month. I know if I wait I could probably get him on cows milk at 11 months. I just feel like it would be nice to have a break also because I've been pregnant or breast feeding for the last 3 years.

the only things that are nutritionally complete for a baby are breastmilk, and formula. all other options would be detrimental, especially at this age.



may i ask why it is that you want to give formula? if you give us more details we will be able to give better advice. if you are just wanting to offer a bottle of formula to allow someone else to feed baby have you thought about pumping breastmilk?
