Does anyone know if you can eat sushi while breastfeeding? I know that you couldn't while preggo but are the rules the same?

All foods that we were wary of during pregancy affect the placenta, whilst breastfeeding the placenta is no longer an issue...unless your pregnant again!

Yes you can! :) It will not pass to her even if you get sick, but if you regularly eat sushi you probably have a place you trust so you will be fine too!! Enjoy!

It's fine. Obviously you would be eating sushi prepared from a reputable fishmonger.

The rules for nursing moms are not the same for preg. ones.

From Breastfed.com's Expert Q&A:

3. Eat foods that have been properly prepared to minimize exposure to either you or your baby to disease-causing organisms. This applies to sushi - make sure that the sushi you eat is fresh and prepared by a reputable sushi chef. Probably the greater danger in a nursing mother eating sushi is that she might get ill and feel less like caring for her infant. And even then, it is a whole lot easier for an ill mom to care for a breastfed baby than the mom who has to get up and fix those bottles!

Hope this helps
