hi my daughter is almost 8months old n im just wondering if anyone knows if its safe to get a tattoo while breastfeeding or knows of anygood sources with information about this topic. i know u cant while pregnant thats why i have waited cause my baby girl was a suprise n i was about to get one then found i was pregnant but i dont want to do it if it could harm her as it is not neccessary i just want it lol thanks

It is NOT safe to get a tattoo while breastfeeding for the same reasons as while pregnant. If you get an infection from the tattoo, it will go through your blood stream, can get into your breast milk and then your baby will be infected.
And it does NOT matter how clean the shop is or how clean the artist is! Often times infections are from the home after care or even like my mother's infection. She has like 13 tattoos and never had a problem with any of them until her last one, her body rejected the ink and it became severely infected!! So, it's not always how clean you keep it or how well you take care of it.
I really hope you don't put yourself and your baby at risk. Like you said it is not necessary. I am addicted to tattoos, I got 3 in one night, I have a total of 6 and I'm 21. My newest tattoo is about 2.5-3yrs old. I am like itching for a new tattoo, especially now that my son is 8m, I want to get something for him, but I'm waiting.

The ink won't get into the milk. The only risk is if the tat gets infected. I did read on the le leche site that you should wait one year after birth, so that your body is completely healed.
