There are lots of natural as well as perscription medications to help with Thrush. Some of the things you can try are: Grapefruit seed extract, Acidophilus (a probitotic that mom takes), Nystatin, All purpouse Nipple ointment (your Dr needs to perscribe this), Gentian Violet (a purple liquid you put on your nipples and in babys mouth), Diflucan ( as perscription). Sometimes these things will help clear it up and for some reason sometimes they do not. Some forms of thrush are just resiliant to medications and will just go away on their own when baby is around 3-4 months of age. I would go and talk to your Dr or a lactation consultant. Are your nipples pink? Is there pain in your breasts while feeding and after? Is the babys tounge and cheeks white? These are some symptoms of thrush. But pain of the breasts and nipples may be from babys latch and not thrush. Some moms can think that they have thrush when in fact it is just the babys latch that is causing the pain. Check out the Kellysmom web site as well as Jack Newmans. They both have alot of great breastfeeding info on thrush and what treatments are out there.

Nystatin sucks and doesn't always work. Get diflucan if you can. Also, mix 1/2 cup vinegar with 1/2 cup of water. Use a clean cotton ball and wipe around nipple. Never double dip always use a clean one. This will help clear up the infection on your nipples quicker.

Yes it is very painful, has your baby been on an antibiotic lately? Everytime they have put my baby on meds she gets thrush then I get it. You will have to take her to the doctor to get antifugal meds. Also ask for a cream and the doc will give you a cream for your breast.

i had a lot of pain for about the first 4 weeks of breast feeding. i used the daktarin oral gel on my nipples about twice a day. also mixed up a little cup of 1 part vinegar, 3 parts water (approx) and dripped it over both, let dry then use new nursing pads after every feed. try to air as much as you can. tedious but well worth it! it's been 4 months now and still doing it. good luck.

I have heard sunlight helps. Dry your bras in the sun and you have a discreat area by a window or in the back yard let your nipples have a little sunlight, just a couple of minites... good luck

My pediatrician prescribed me a pill and the baby a liquid. It was very painful for about a week so just be prepared. I was also told to let them air dry, bleach everything that the baby had in his mouth and my bras and to let my breast air dry. It will get better it just takes time and medicine.

Hey I am having the same problem right now and actually asked a question very similar. First of all take yoru baby to see his/her pediatrician they may give you medicine for him/her (if he has it of course) But anyways I did and she also told me to rub some of it on my nipples. I was having the hardest time last night feeding him on my one side and was totally not able to at all today so I was told to pump that side until it gets better..Some ladies are saying there is a cream for you to actually have prescribed but I didn't get one, at least not yet. as of right now I'll just use his..The pediatrician says it should clear up in a week and I can tell his is clearing up fast..so hopefully it will be gone for both of us soon..Best of luck hun..

Have you gone to your doctor to get the antifungal needed?
I got this off WebMD:
How can you manage thrush?
If your baby has thrush, it may help to:
Clean bottle nipples and pacifiers regularly using hot water.
Clean your nipples with medicine, such as nystatin, if you breast-feed your baby. Breast-feeding mothers and babies can pass a yeast infection back and forth.
Dry your nipples and apply lanolin lotion after breast-feeding.
Good luck!
