The past few days I have noticed that my nipples burn when I am feeding him and even when I am not. It also looks like there is leftover milk on his tongue that never goes away as well. Its very painful to BF but I have kept doing it, seeing as this is my first kid, is this thrush? Do I need to call my doc and get some meds for this as well?

You can use Grapefruit seed extract, acidophilus, gentian violet, and all purpose nipple ointment (these are natural remedies) If you need to you can get Nystatin and Diflucan from your Dr.

If it is thrush you need to get your son checked too he may have it in his mouth and he needs treating too because it can make it really painful for him to feed and you will just get it passed back if you don't get him treated too.

I found the hair dryer on the nipples was great to dry them to keep thrush at bay. I do feel sorry for you it is very painful but can be fixed.

We have a doc appointment later today to get it looked at so hopefully we will take care of whatever this is so I can get back to Breastfeeding painless and enjoy it again.

Hi! I'm sorry, but from what you said, it does sound like thrush. My baby is 3.5 months old and we've been dealing with it since she was 2 weeks old! I'd advise you to get to the doctor or a lactation consultant fast so they can diagnose and hopefully get rid of it as soon as possible before it gets too bad! Until then, make sure you rinse off after each feeding, and I know it's uncomfortable, but expose your nipples to air as much as possible. Good luck!
