My son will not take a bottle... which means i can not have a night alone w/ my hubby and its starting to get to both of us. I would love to continue breastfeeding but i would also love for him to take the bottle even if it is breast milk. He also will not take formula at all. Dont get me wrong I love breastfeeding but its just that my hubby and I cant get a night out or n e thing bc he is on the boob. Any advice about getting him to take formula and a bottle would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

wow...the BreastFlow bottles look very interesting.. I hadn't heard of them. They would definately be worth looking into as well.

Yes, you can start trying cups at this age.

But here's what worked for us when I had to go back to work full time: After two months of trying all the different advice, trying a bunch of different bottles, nipples, we *finally* got our son (around 6 months old at the time) to start taking expressed breastmilk from the Breastflow bottles by First Years. They are the best! It's a wide, soft silicon outer nipple nested with a narrow firm inner nipple, and they're made so the baby latches on the same as for a breast, they have to compress and suck instead of just sucking - feels much more natural to them. I'd give that a try, and see if it works for you.

:-) you did mention formula, but perhaps did not intend to.

My daughter is 4.5 months old and I breastfeed. I have a manual breastpump (but seriously considering an electric one) and I tried to express twice.. took a long long time and only could get 1-2 ounces; but I had no troubles with my other 2 children, so I'm thinking it's the type of pump. If you haven't tried yet, you may want to experiment with different nipples. I had to try 3 before I found one that was as close to a "real" nipple for my daughter. She does not like silicone AT ALL. She prefers Latex. (Latex is much softer and more supple) The winner was Playtex. I used the square tip ones with my other children, but she prefers the round tip.. with wide base, it feels more like a breast as opposed to the standard/skinny nipples. Good luck.

Did you not mean to make the above statement then?

He does not need a bottle. Pump your milk and put it in a cup for his caregiver to give him sips out of.

Quoting Lisa:

Formula for non-medical reasons is not supported in this community.

You can, however, learn to express milk from your breasts and put it in a cup for your son- or it can be spoon fed to him. He can also have solids while you're away, since he's six months now.

No need for a bottle.

For 1... I did not say i wanted to switch to formula... All I asked was how can I get my son to take the bottle. All I want is a night out w/ my hubby. And yes I do know that he can have solids. I started him on solids at 4months. He has never taken formula only breast milk. I just want to pump and have him take the bottle but he will not latch on for no more then 1 sip after that he is done.
